House Republicans Just Dropped News That’ll Make Establishment Heads Explode

The House Freedom Caucus will vote for Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL) for Speaker of the House when the Republican conference chooses its candidate on Thursday.

The group said in a statement, according to the Washington Post:

“It is clear that our constituents will simply not accept a continuation of the status quo, and that the viability of the Republican Party depends on whether we start listening to our voters and fighting to keep our promises … We accordingly believe that, under the present circumstances and without significant changes to Conference leadership and process, Rep. Daniel Webster would be best equipped to earn back the trust of the American people as Speaker of the House.”

As Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) explained, the decision to vote together applies only for the conference vote on Thursday, and is not binding for votes that may follow, according to the Washington Examiner.

The decision damages the prospects for current Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who has been endorsed by outgoing Speaker John Boehner in his battle against Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Webster.

It requires a majority of the House, or 218 votes, to win the gavel. There are currently 247 Republicans in the House.

Perhaps, if they were taking this seriously, they would.

Set the bar high!

Webster is a decent guy and light Years Better than McCarthy or the Utah clown..

Bonehead and McCarthy Fired him from his Committee seat for not ramming the K Street agenda.

Webster beat that former mental patient Alan Grayson who had to move to be elected again.

I have never heard of that ranking information.

The real significance is that the HFC is denying McCarthy the Speakership, unless he compromises with them or gets Dem votes. They’re using their influence.
The bad news is that this means they haven’t succeeded yet.

I got off the phone with my representative’s office little while ago. I requested he not vote for McCarthy under any circumstance.

She said I wasn’t the first!

We need to burn the phone lines to our reps.

Why in the world would they vote for someone that the departing Speaker endorsed?????

Boehner will soon be DEPARTED. Count our blessings and hope they vote for someone who is not only strong, but also, able to speak persuasively.

I don’t know. Gohmert backs Webster. Webster represents a liberal county here in Central Florida. He was Speaker for the Florida House and did a very effective job. His idea is run the House on principle and get rid of the hierarchy of power.

He’s politically more center, but he is not a sellout.

I surely don’t trust McCarthy or the other putz.

Just last night that fat Red State loser from here in Atlanta that destroyed his career dispiriting Trump was saying Webster was too extreme and had no backing. Lol.

30.J. Chaffetz (R) UT-3rd B+
215.D. Webster (R) FL C

My apologies for not having a score card on the likes of gradegov. How do they compare comparing “Conservatives” to the other folks that run these rating surveys?

“The real significance is that the HFC is denying McCarthy the Speakership”

That is exactly right!! They had a cozy little chain of command, and Webster certainly wasn’t anywhere near it.

Boehner was to bequeath the Speakership to Cantor, oops, he got defeated. So then McCarthy and then one of go-along chairmen.

Webster isn’t as conservative as others but he’s certainly better than McCarthy, and his rise will tear to shreds their carefully planned cabal.

Hensarling should have run. Don’t know why he didn’t.

One we can count on is Gohmert! If Louie tells you a hen dips snuff, you don’t need to look under her wing for the bottle”.

Had hope he would be up for Speaker, but I’m afraid he’s getting burned out fighting the GOPe day in and day out.

I doubt Webster will win.
But now if the Dems don’t vote for McCarthy some other Republican will eventually win. One who will compromise with the conservatives, and is acceptable to the RINOs.
Maybe Hensarling.

BTW: If McCarthy isn’t elected he and the rest of the present Leadership will remain- as things stand now.

Levin doesn’t like any of the three ... Webster, Chaffetz, or McCarthy.

Levin is right.

Either do I. Can’t load the .gov too TX-heavy right now. Marsha Blackburn (TN) has some leftist leanings but I’d like to see her battle Pelosi. Marsha is a mean MF. Speaker of the House is not a light job.
