When Cruz Makes His Move, Watch Out
National Review ^ | 10/7/2015 | Eliana Johnson

Posted on 10/07/2015 4:59:22 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

The Texas senator may look like an also-ran, but he’s a legit contender.

Where’s Ted Cruz? The outspoken Texas senator has been unusually quiet in recent weeks. But in GOP circles, there’s soft but growing chatter that he is likely to be one of the last men standing in one of the most chaotic and unpredictable presidential races in recent memory.

You wouldn’t know it from his poll numbers. Cruz is running at about 6 percent nationally and in key states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. That’s well behind outsiders Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson, and those numbers accord with the attitude that many influential Republicans have taken toward him since his arrival in Washington three years ago: There’s no way he can win the nomination. He’s too conservative and doctrinaire, and his abrasiveness doesn’t help the cause.

Given his poll numbers and his solid but unremarkable debate performances, the press has mostly ignored him. The result is that the Texas senator may be the most undercovered serious candidate in the race – and the most underestimated. But he shouldn’t be dismissed. This is the man, after all, who, according to one of his allies, began meeting with Iowa activists to plot his path to victory in the state in August of 2013, just nine months after he was elected to the Senate. Is it possible that he’ll sneak up on the Republican establishment again, just as he did in his 2012 Senate race?

Within Republican circles, attitudes about his viability have begun to change.

I think Carson is a three dollar bill. He has mixed messages on everything.

Whomever the nominee becomes has just a little over four months until Iowa, New Hampshire
and South Carolina make their choices. Less than five months from now on the 1st day of March, 2016
several states hold their selection processes. Several more happen throughout March and by the end of
March the selection most likely will be inevitable.

And they were willing to cede their fortune, their health, their worldly goods, if that was what it took!

But not OUR freedom!!!!!.....

I remain extremely interested in what their meeting a few months ago was about.

Yeah, the media just eats it up when a ‘rat shows “abrasiveness”, only when they do it, they call it “moxie” or “chutzpa”.

I don’t understand for the life of me how he’s polling so high. He’s a good man, but that doesn’t make him CIC material.

The GOPe first tried to bump up Carson hoping to peal away some of Trumps’ supporters, and it some extent that worked. Now the GOPe will bump up Cruz hoping again to peal off more support for Trump. It is not going to work, everyone knows that Carson and Cruz can be taken out easily by the GOPe when the time comes to clear a path for JEB or Rubio. The only anti-establishment candidate with the ability to win is Trump.

Carson is a three dollar bill. He has mixed messages on everything.

You managed to put a label on that uneasy feeling I have about Carson. I just don't know... He could be great, or he could get in there and be seduced by the notion of "we could get so much done, if you're willing compromise a little on..." I'm afraid he has just a bit too much naivety and outsider-ness. (is that a word?)

It is only a slight variation on my concern with Trump. He's a deal maker. Sure, he'd probably be really good on some issues, but I'm sure he'd cut deals to get things done. There would be things he'd do that would royally cheese me off too.

No they are not on the same page. Only Trump sends illegals home. Carson and Cruz both support some type of amnesty for illegals. Trumps wants to bring back to the USA for Americans jobs Cruz wants to vastly expand American job killing H1 visas program. Hardly the same page at all.

I just don't believe any of the national media polls right now. I'd rather see the internals of each candidate. I think those would give a truer picture of what's really going on.

This article makes absolutely no sense!

The article is an acknowledgement that obtaining the GOP nomination is a technical process of fulfilling many varied state requirements while maintaining a national organization and projecting a coherent message. Most candidates fail that test.

Cruz is a guy that is keeping his act together and maintaining coherency - even the Bush regulars are falling apart in that regard. He's doing all the preliminary blocking and tackling to set up for the scores. It's really impressive to watch.

I love what the Byrds did with that verse... what a beautiful song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” is.

I took a look at your video. Classic Ted Cruz. Hopefully our future President.

What is notable is that this hour long video of a speech on the Senate floor posted to YouTube only about 10 days ago has just short of 250,000 views and 1240 comments.

That’s amazing to me. Amazing. And the comments are very favorable.

“the Texas senator may be the most undercovered serious candidate in the race “

This has been done on purpose. They can’t knock Ted as an idiot, so the only option is to ignore him and hope that works.

Same here, I like Trump but I would rather Cruz have the top spot. I am not sure Trump could be 2 nd.

I went to vote in a poll. You had to pick 3. I could only pick one....everyone else was a draw. So I think Carson and Fiorina are just non committal votes that don't mean a thing.

Rubio is stuck on immigration because of his family. Bush, also.

Cruz....A Rebel...but this isn't the Alamo. The best place for him is AG.
