Now that the Russians finally have made it clear that ISIS defeat is even POSSIBLE (indeed likely), the West realizes there will be a post-struggle arrangement and wants to have some claim in it.
For that reason ALONE, Western forces fiiiinally get serious.
Were it not for Russia, we would not be seeing this now.
The US air campaign has been TOTAL artifice.

I have 2 concerns. The first is all of the time training fighters. Allies today can be enemies tomorrow.
Also, we have seen how utterly ball-less the Iraqi and Afghanis are.
