Fiorina campaign questioned about paying their bills during senate bid (Deadbeat Carly)

Now that former HP CEO Carly Fiorina has clawed her way up into the top tier of GOP primary candidates, the press has gone into high gear in terms of digging into her past and seeing what skeletons might be found in her closet. This week the Washington Post has has been examining the financial reports from her unsuccessful 2010 California Senate bid and turned up what will no doubt come as troubling news. The famous businesswoman is renowned for handling and managing wealth, but when it came time to pay the bills racked up on the campaign trail some of the checks allegedly were not in the mail.

Famed California pollster Joe Shumate was found dead in his home one month before Election Day 2010, surrounded by sheets of polling data he labored over for the flailing Senate bid of Carly Fiorina.

Upon his death, Fiorina praised Shumate as “the heart and soul” of her team. She issued a news release praising him as a person who believed in “investing in those he worked with” and offering her “sincerest condolences” to his widow.

But records show there was something that Fiorina did not offer his widow: Shumate’s last paycheck, for at least $30,000. It was one of more than 30 invoices, totaling about $500,000, that the multimillionaire didn’t settle — even as Fiorina reimbursed herself nearly $1.3 million she lent the campaign. She finally cleared most of the balance in January, a few months before announcing her run for president.

Shumate was only one of a number of people owed money in this report. Fiorina’s own campaign manager went on record saying that he would “occasionally” call her saying that she really needed to settle up on her bills, but “she just wouldn’t.”

When Hillary campaigned in 2007-2008, she ran up alot of bills which were still unpaid some time later.

I remember items posted here on FR where landlords, bakeries, and other service persons were still unpaid by Hillary’s campaign.

I would like the media to look into Hillary & her trail of unpaid bills. One guy had rented a small hall- such as a VFW hall to Hillary & could not get paid for it.

Even with contracts, Hillary seems just to breach the contract & defy anyone to do anything about it.

IF she handles her own affairs in such a manner, why would we trust her to handle USA affairs????

Hillary is a chronic liar & cheater.

IF she & I were the last 2 people on earth and she was a candidate & I was the only voter, I still would not vote for her.

Standard Republican response s/b: “I’ll
[’release my tax returns’ | ‘pay my bills’ | etc.] when we get the truth about Hillary’s handling of our country’s secret information.”

If my campaign manager was so inept that I lost to Boxer, I wouldn’t pay him either.

Keep in mind that these may be bills that must be paid by her Senate campaign. By law, her presidential campaign may not pay these bills her presidential PACS may not pay those bills.

She can personally lend her Senate campaign the money to pay her bills, but at a certain point, she is not permitted to be paid back.

The standard way to handle for failed candidates with outstanding debts is to continue to fundraiser for the failed candidacy and hope someone will decide that the candidate needs cleaning up and will move to clean up the debt. Obama did this for Hitler after he was wlwcted, in a deal to win her support for the general election.

Florida may leverage her willingness to enthusiastically campaign for the eventual nominee in return for cleaning up her Senate campaign committee debt.

I guess I am really out of touch, but I do not understand the why of all the ad hominem attacks on Fiorina and others. From Bush to Trump and everyone in between. Many of these seem like the writer(s) has a personal hatred of them.
I can understand not liking their policies or even their family and personal history, but some of these are absolutely vicious.

she is a stooge for the establishment. A simulated outsider.

she is there by the grace of the donors FOR OTHER CANDIDATES such as Bush, Rubio, Cruz (say it ‘ain’t’ so ted!).

Seems like the honorable way to avoid paying your debts to these non-deadbeat Donnies

The article says she paid herself back first for a loan she made to the campaign.

It also says the campaign asked her to do some appearances to raise money to pay the bills but she declined.

And for 5 years, she took refused to pay the final paycheck to the widow of her pollster who died during the campaign. Carly is just an awful person.

This is the sort of thing about ANY candidate that really bothers me; it indicates the innate decency of someone. I’m trying to imagine the scenario of trying to reach a goal, and upon falling short, I reimburse myself before paying those who were on my team. Freepers know what I mean. Most freepers I see would have skipped meals to pay off their supporters, before paying off themselves.

That said, I read that Trump’s people are paid until the end of the year. If that is wrong, someone will correct me, no doubt.

They also need to ask FioRINO why her so-called foundation donated over $400K to PP.

Yes, if she hadn’t directed the campaign to pay her loan back, she would have eventually lost the right as the FEC would have eventually reclassified the loan as candidate self-funding, which doesn’t get “paid back.”

I don’t know why she refused to make appearances on behalf of the campaign to retire the debt, but I speculate she thought it would be easier to retire the debt after running for president.

She’s made a bid splash and has quite a following. I see a little bit of the appeal. The eventual nominee could use her support, especially to counter the “war against women” meme.

For the eventual nominee, raising a half million for Carly’s old debts will be a drop in the bucket, especially if the nominee wins the general election.

That’s precisely what Trump responded, I believe, to Stephie on Sunday’s THIS WEEK show on ABC.
