The weird thing is, when I learned the pledge it did NOT include “under God” and to this day I still stumble at that part. Not that I don’t think it was a needed addition, it’s just the way I memorized it as a kid. (Guess I’m aging myself huh?) :>}

We must be close to the same age. I learned the pledge in first grade and we said it every day, then in second grade, “under God” was added.

I was teaching first grade in Boston in 1954-1955.

The phrase “under God” was added, and the Salk vaccine was introduced.

It was a very busy school year.
