Well done, feminism. Now men are afraid to help women at work
The Telegraph ^ | 01 October 2015 10/04/2015 | Martin Daubney

Posted on 10/04/2015 6:44:39 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

A new book claims that male office workers are now so afraid of being on the receiving end of a sexual harassment case, they are reluctant to mentor, assist, befriend and even hold open doors for female colleagues.

Crushingly, the book, Sex & The Office suggests men now view such ordinary, decent behaviours as “too risky” – and, in what will be a bitter irony for equality campaigners – claims that, as a direct consequence, women are now failing to advance at work.

This terror of being accused of sexual harassment is now so common it has its own term, “backlash stress”. It sounds like something straight out of a Claims Direct ad – where the only victims are men.

The book’s author, Kim Elsesser, a research scholar at the University of California, argues that a “sex partition” has sprung up, which impedes women from building the vital network of contacts both within the workplace and socially.

And the author should know about tough working environments: she’s a former equities trader at Morgan Stanley.

Tellingly, Elsesser adds that companies themselves are contributing to this mess, as they are now so terrified of legal action they send staff on sexual harassment training courses, and are duty-bound to follow up on any allegation, however minor.

Ludicrously, Elsesser cites examples of men who have been dragged in by their HR departments for simply opening a door for a female colleague or complimenting her on a new suit. “Stories like these spread around workplaces, instilling a fear that innocent remarks will be misinterpreted,” she says.

No s**t, Sherlock!

LMAO guess I don’t interpret the Bible as you apparently do.

Glad you’re confident in God’s choice of words and meanings.

Wonder what God would say about your comment to me”Don’t read the Bible much, do you?”

How “Christian” of you.

Absolutely not.

But this is exactly what feminism and it’s distorted view have taught. Where were we all when it was happening? Why didn’t we partake in the institutions as they were being taken over rather than abandoning them to the liberal/communist/marxist people that are now running them? Why haven’t we fought for Tort Reform? Why do we want to continue to use the government for our agenda yet get all pissy when the other side does the same and wins?

The other side is winning. We aren’t winning the hearts and minds of the young. Our education/entertainment/business/Church world has shifted to the most vocal even if they aren’t the majority. Our Government has shifted.

I’ve raised four kids and even though they think Abortion is murder and would never do it, the only time they hear what it’s about is in the home. They think homosexuality is weird but a whatever type of thing. They have homosexual friends that are now accepted so they think it’s really no big deal but still wrong but whatever.

My youngest, 17, has a classmate who is transitioning from female to male. She’s almost all male now. She’s freakin 17 years old and has had surgery and hormones to change what she was born as. She’s been a “project” for the lgbt or whatever the current acronym is for them since she was a 6th grader, 11. WTF? Her parents and the media and the lgbt have encouraged this. The schools have encouraged it and call her by her new name. Her friends (my daughter) have supported her.

Why?

My daughter knows it’s “weird” but everyone else seems to think it’s just great. For the last two years, everytime my daughter calls this child that I have known, had in my house since pre-school, by a male name, I correct her. But her entire world accepts it and she’s always asking “why is it so wrong since now she’s happy?” and that kid is happy now but that’s short term.

We’ve allowed our society to go from one extreme, and it was an extreme, to the opposite extreme.

Do you think it’s ok or reasonable for anyone to cry to HR when a coworker offends them in any way? Because this is what is happening everywhere in HR and this is why lawsuits are so prevalent. IMO

Good point. ITA.

I keep everything now. Notes and emails with other teachers, students, parents, admin. Everything. It sucks but it’s necessary now.

I don’t really do facebook other than family/friends and students who have graduated who ask.

I had a board member ask me, in person, to be fb friends and she said she didn’t know if it was allowed. I discouraged it but she “friended” me and I’m not sure if I should accept.

Wonder what God thinks of you mocking His word by saying, “I ain’t no weaker vessel and if you think you are you got issues”.

I didn’t interpret anything, just quoted His word. I assumed that it was a phrase commonly known by those who spend time reading scriptures. When you mocked those words of God, I assumed you had never read them.

For what it’s worth, a weaker vessel is not less worthy as you seem to believe. I know that despite my years of effort knocking myself out training to compete in sports from high school through college, I will never, ever approach the physical strength of a man. I couldn’t fight off a man who intended to harm me and I couldn’t outrun one either-even though I was a decent sprinter. I appreciate men who are willing to stand up and protect women.

I also firmly believe that a true lady never curses, even in text speak abbreviations.

Understood, but as a Christian and a Conservative, you still should.

Hmm even if it were your “lib” daughter?

In my world, family trumps everything, even their political affiliation.

Yup.....

Before I retired from hourly work and went independent, I had come to the conclusion that it would be wise to not have any contact at all with any woman there unless it was strictly business and I did not even sit with them at the lunch tables..

Bosses can be as weird as anyone else. They’re just like us and just happen to have a different position. Agree with being careful in the work place. Like big cities, the corporate world can be the worst venues for litigious insanity. They’re infested with the hyper sensitive along with other self assigned life long victims who’ll will strike out for even the most insignificant things.

Take care.

I've been in various management roles throughout my now thirty year long career in Information Technology.

For as long as I can remember, I've *refused* to meet with any of my female management peers or any female manager or subordinate alone, in a one on one situation.

That's the reality that we as men in the workforce live with today. The truth is, there are some women who look to take advantage of the sexual discrimination laws in this country and get a paycheck (read that: lawsuit settlement payout.)

It's a sad reality that my current employer of which I've been with for nine years now, summarily fires any male employee who so much as has an accusatory finger pointed at them by any female. I've seen that happen twice. The truth is, there is no confronting your accuser once a female co-worker whether peer, subordinate or superior once the finger of sexual discrimination is pointed at you if you're a male.

Always best to never meet alone 1:1 with a female co-worker at any level in your place of employment.

That one got me on the HR S*** List even after some one pointed out my mother's southern background (which catapulted me from Sexist to Red Neck)

**SNORT!!** I'm sorry but that just made me laugh out loud HARD!

Wonder who the Feminazis hate more; the men that compliment women, or the women being complimented.

Answer: BOTH.

Feminists are just ugly women who can't get dates. (Or laid.....)

I only recall one encounter about twenty years ago where a young lady gave me attitude for holding the door. I was like, “Dudette, what’s your problem?”

My wife and I have been married over 29 years. When she and I are out together, whether we're grocery shopping, out to a restaurant, or on a "date night" I open the doors for her.

Entering a building, I open the door for her. Getting back into our vehicle, I open the door for her.

I recall one incident not that long ago where some fat, ugly, hog of a "woman" snidely remarked "what, she can't open the ****ing door herself?" as I opened the door for my wife as we entered a restaurant.

Some women just don't have a clue. Never will. Sucks to be them.

Did I mention my wife and I have been married 29 years and I still open doors for her?

Congrats on the nearly 3 decades of marriage!

They criticize us not knowing how insignificant they are.

The original post in #77 was about declining carry a heavy box of paper for a lib co-worker. It was not about leaving her to die in a raging fire.

I would still care about MY daughter, but I would have no expectation that others were under any obligation to do her any favors if they had been subjected to liberal/feminist bad attitude by her. And if she whined to me about it, I would tell her that any woman who wants to have the benefits of being treated as a lady, has a duty to behave as a lady.

My basic attitude is that anyone working for the destruction of society (male or female) has forfeited any right to expect me to do them any favors.

It matters in sales and other public/client-facing roles. Other areas, not so much.

It’s a sorry state that it’s become this. Men and women are being taught from the time they are little children that they don’t need each other.

It's on purpose, all per the plan (Frankfut School's).

Their bottom line? We only need Government (and Government's control of schools, unions, media, workplace, healthcare, environment, waterways, childcare).

And I stand when wife leaves or returns to a restaurant table. The shock and anger from the f-nzs in the room is palpable.

Isn’t it something? They want every woman to be as miserable in their pathetic world of loneliness and bitterness that they themselves built.

Men are wonderful. And women aren’t weaker vessels.

Depends on the task at hand.
