KABUL The acting governor of Afghanistans northern Kunduz province said Sunday that Taliban fighters had been routinely firing small and heavy weapons from the grounds of a local hospital before it was apparently hit by a U.S. airstrike over the weekend.
In an interview, Hamdullah Danishi said the Doctors Without Borders compound was a Taliban base that was being used to plot and carry out attacks across the provincial capital, Kunduz city.
The hospital campus was 100 percent used by the Taliban, Danishi said. The hospital has a vast garden, and the Taliban were there. We tolerated their firing for some time before responding.
arly Saturday, in an airstrike that outraged the United Nations and humanitarian groups across the world, at least 19 people were killed and 37 others critically wounded during sustained bombardment near the hospital.
On Sunday, Doctors Without Borders strongly refuted suggestions that any Taliban fighters were inside the hospital at the time of the attack.

I have no sympathy for medical personnel who volunteer to be infrastructure for terrorists. Then, when they become hostages and human shields, scream about being victims. Unbelievable that kind of behavior would be defended.
We’re doomed by our own, not by invaders.
RE: I have no sympathy for medical personnel who volunteer to be infrastructure for terrorists.
If they volunteered, yes, they are responsible for the consequences.
But what if they were told -— You can establish your clinic and tend to the sick ONLY of you allow us to store our weapons there...
Doctors without Borders is a morally repugnant group. They routinely publish pro-Islamist propaganda:
Palestine: Gaza, one year after, Palestinians still suffocated by Israeli occupation
They are probably quite happy to assist the terrorists under the guise of a hospital. In this case, these people are not being compelled, against their will, to commit these acts of terror: storing weapons and giving refuge to terrorists is itself an act of terror.
They have a long history of sympathy for and assistance to islamic terror groups.
“strongly refuted suggestions that any Taliban fighters were inside the hospital at the time of the attack”
Hummmm “At the time of attach”
The fact that they are putting themselves in the theater alongside those who would demand they allow weapons to be stored at their location absolutely makes them a valid target.
They volunteered to be there, they are absolutely responsible for the consequences. There is no logical way to whitewash that reality. They aren’t being held hostage, they are aiding a specific side and they have a specific agenda (MSF/DWB).
DWB are part of the enemy infrastructure. Not combatants, but REMFs.
Only about 10% of our military is actual combat troops at any given time. It takes lots of infrastructure to support combat operations.
U.N. screaming war crime.
I vote mistake.
If a republican president had called for that air strike, it would have been the only maternity hospital in Afghanistan.
Drs. without Borders gave up the ghost and bugged out.
That organization is full of liars
It’s a tough spot , but when you put yourself in harm’s way there are risks.
The bad guys knowingly use them.
In some cases the ‘good guys’ are complicit in the shielding.
This isn’t the schoolyard.
You can’t just call time out.
Those "doctors" shouldn't have been firing on us.
Refuse and have armed guards like any other organization operating in a war zone.
