Six men were arrested this week after local and federal authorities targeted an elaborate illegal marijuana grow that covered a full mile of federal land, adjacent to Colorado Highway 141 at the Dolores River and near the Mesa and Montrose county lines.

All totaled, 153 pounds of marijuana were hauled away in recent days by federal authorities, who boated it in trash bags from one side of the Dolores River to the other.

Leonel Olaguez Cabrales, 22, Angel Guzman Gutierrez, 31, Sergio Enrique Arevalo Portillo, 26, Jose Eleno Rodarte Garcia, 38, Eduardo Arias Torres, 27, and Juan Mejia-Vasquez, 41, were booked Wednesday at the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of federal charges of conspiracy to manufacture 1,000 or more plants and possession with intent to distribute more than 50 kilograms of marijuana.

Oh wait a sec. They got busted because they didn’t pay the govt their licensiing and regulatory fees plus the taxes on their weed. No way would the govt have busted them if they were here illegally with this administration. Sorry its early and I haven’t had my coffee yet...

No that was just the Dream Act, for minor illegal aliens.

Doesn't cover these illegal aliens.

Four of the men had Mexican identification cards and one had Honduran identification, according to a federal arrest warrant affidavit.

Two of them allegedly told arresting officers they were in the United States illegally.

The legal stuff is pretty expensive. Take away the taxes, license fees, gov’t inspection costs, etc. and you can make some $$$ off of a grow operation. Probably selling in states where it is still illegal, too.

A ‘farm’ a mile long? Only 153 pounds of plants?

The math doesn’t add up here.

In the last month, I have pulled up Russian Thistles (tumbleweeds) which were too big to pout into an SUV and a few of those plants weighed more than 30 ## each.

The 153 pound number is wrong.

... Colorado Highway 141 at the Dolores River and near the Mesa and Montrose county lines.

The location of this marijuana farm is about ten miles south of Gateway, CO on the Delores River near Hwy. 141. Gateway's most prominent citizen is John Hendricks the founder of Discovery Channel. He has a gorgeous estate there and built a large upscale resort in Gateway as well. The resort is five star, no expense spared, with a world class automobile museum ... Hendricks is an enthusiastic vintage car collector. This area is in central western Colorado just a few miles from the CO/UT state line.
