Germany celebrates 25 years since reunification

Germany is marking twenty-five years of unity with celebrations across the country. Frankfurt takes center-stage for this year's public events while German Unity Day is also being marked around the world.

Germany celebrates the 25th anniversary of its unification on Oct 3, 2015. Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier (pic), its federal minister for foreign affairs, pens a message on this significant milestone.

I was stationed in West Berlin from 84-88, 1946 Communications Squadron, and traveled through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin many times. I never thought anything, short of a war, would bring about the fall of the Berlin Wall. That it, and the rest of the East Bloc, collapsed so quickly, and relatively violent free, is one of the most phenomenal events I have ever witnessed.
