Has anyone figured out where the name Mercer comes from?
Torrance, California is what I’ve seen.

It is English, an old term that is derived from the same root as merchant but refers more to someone operating a retail business. I’ve heard that “grocer” is the best equivalent (I have a friend who had Mercer as a maiden name).
There’s a Mercer island in wa state. I think it was full of commies at one time or still is.
