Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Friday the United States should establish no-fly zones and sanctuaries along Syria's border with Jordan and Turkey, and warn aggressors, specifically Russian President Vladimir Putin, that they violate those buffers at their own risk.
Campaigning in New Hampshire, the Republican presidential hopeful said the U.S. must send a message that military retaliation is a guarantee, not an idle threat, if conditions are not met.
"You enter that no-fly zone, you enter at your own peril," Kasich said. "No more red lines, no more looking the other way. If any hostile aircraft should enter that, there will be a great consequence to them."

And should Islamic State extremists attempt to enter the sanctuaries, Kasich said, the U.S. and regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, should be ready for ground combat to repel them.

Since when do we have the authority to unilaterally impose a No Fly Zone on a Sovereign nation whose government is recognized by the UN as the legitimate government?

This feels like the Balkans all over again. Not that Assad is synonymous with Milosevic. Milosevic was totally innocent and the only world leader that confronted al Qaeda. But just in terms of ill advised Democrat instigated stupidity that some Republicans want to jump into.

I am thinking that Kasich is thinking that since Trump got traction by talking tough on illegal aliens that he can get attention by sounding martial. Oooh, are we supposed to swoon at the girly man’s muscles? Not happening.
So, we’ll enforce a no fly zone at the risk of our pilots.
Russia will enforce theirs with a remote unmanned anti-aircraft missile batteries.
