McCain reacted to Russia's announcement that it had begun launching air strikes targeting ISIS militants in Syria by calling on the White House to arm Syrian rebels with weapons to shoot down Russian planes.
McCain initially responded to Fox News host Neil Cavuto's question about whether he would shoot down Russian planes by saying no, but then went on to assert that he would arm Syrian rebels to carry out that very same task.
"I might do what we did in Afghanistan many years ago, to give those guys the ability to shoot down those planes, that equipment is available," said McCain, adding that the Free Syrian Army would shoot down the planes," just like the Afghans shot down Russian planes after Russia invaded Afghanistan."

Obama had the first shot at ISIS and look at what he did to destroy them
That useless human being does not even enter into the discussion. He is Putin’s bitsh. Iran’s lapdog. The damage he has done is inestimable. But he has won in America. Right and left both have had enough of war and IMHO this bodes I’ll for future Americans.
McCain is bad but would have been better than Obama. He would have left the 15,000 troops in Iraq that the Pentagon wanted. So while McCain is bad your vote was between bad and absolutely awful. You made the right choice.
From breitbart last week
... The first wave of New Syrian Force fighters was ambushed by al-Qaeda and wiped out, with many of them killed, kidnapped, or MIA.
No one at the Pentagon seems to know what happened to the second wave after they handed American vehicles and ammunition over to al-Qaedas Nusra Front in exchange for safe passage.
U.S. suspends aid to Syrian rebels after Islamists seize warehouses Dec 2013
...The recently created Islamic Front, which seized control of the warehouses, includes the biggest Islamist factions in Syria
WWIII by halloween...not sure bout that. I just can’t believe Obozo would truly be that stupid and a move like this would be....truly stupid.
Politicians, like generals, have a tendency to fight the last war. - John Bolton
Well we will agree to disagree.
I am not an Isolationist.
What I am is a Historian. I am also a keen student of Military History and once upon a time a long time ago was a US Army Infantryman.
With the US now in a position to export oil again for the 1st time in my life, the Oil wealth of the Middle East is no longer a primary US National Security interest. If Putin wants to grab hold of the ME Tar Baby, he will find it costs him far more then it gains him.
The world has changed a great deal.
China’s economy is almost wholly depending on selling goods to the USA. With over 1 billion people China has so many problems the last thing is leaders are interested is war with it largest customer.
Russia is a faded rump of its former empire. Putin is the dying gasp of a failed generation raised in the dying days of the Soviet Empire.
Iran has neither the wealth, the industrial base or the population to be anything but a regional power. The reason we don’t want nukes in their hands is they are a regime that cannot be trusted to murder a great deal of people in an act of insanity not because they pose a fundamental threat to the continued existence of the USA
well said
I would send the EPA over to their Latakia airbase to do environmental inspections and command-directed remediation. That will ground their aircraft and absorb their operating funds. Hey it worked for the KGB against our Air Force....
Agreed. There’s never been any president one-tenth as bad as O. The enemy agent’s term of office is truly historical.
Hey John, grab a stinger and head on over there.
The last time we armed “moderate” rebels to shoot Russian aircraft out of the skies was a place called Afghanistan with the ultimate result the Taliban running the place.Osama bin Laden was among those “moderate” rebels.John, you old fool, shut the hell up and retire!!!
Someone put Johnny back in his room and give him an extra dose of meds.
McCain should be committed to some mental institution with no means to communicate to the outside world.”
He’s like one of those that Trump says “slips through the cracks”.
Aren’t most of the “rebels” ISIS savages?
These idiots get a high over military action, the speeches, the drama, the endless photo ops; it’s a sign of an unstable mind. These morons don’t understand that our military is not what it used to be and our troops need rest, not more wars.
As for dealing with Russia, or fighting these wars that have nothing to do with us, they seize on the latest trendy causes and prefer to use our troops as tools for the trendy cause, not in the interests of protecting the country or citizens. Russia is a trendy enemy, not a real one. Out of habit, they denounce Russia and any other country that used to be at odds with us.
John McCain has likely never been seeing things right since his time in Vietnam. I don’t think he’s ever going to recover from his time suffering at the hands of the VietCong.
Don’t forget another anti-Israel former president. The one who let Iran fall to the ayatollahs, who then thanked him by holding our embassy staff hostage until he was replaced by one who the Islamists truly feared in 1980.
He was at least half as bad as Obama, but fortunately served only one term.
I voted for the guy over Obama, but his judgement in foreign affairs is oftenknee-jerk in favor of military action.
It’s a shame he didn’t go down with the Keating Fivesnd spare us all.
