Warplanes believed to be Russian bombed an Islamic State-held town 130 km (80 miles) northeast of Damascus overnight, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday.
Islamic State captured the town of Qaryatain from government control in August.

You have to give Putin some credit here. It is in his best interest to simply bomb the U.S. supported "rebels" since they appear to be the most immediate threat to Assad.
But bombing ISIS is a big plus for him in the context of his management of a U.S. targeted PR campaign.
Are we going to put a "no fly zones" around areas controlled by ISIS? If not, are we going to join with the Ruskies and bomb ISIS targets at the same time? Somehow I don't see that happening. Are we going to shoot down Russian aircraft to make the point that we are still the big guys on the block and to protect "our rebels" who are in all likelihood future members of ISIS? I don't think so.

While I’m not a fan of Putin, I’d much rather see Russian aircraft strafing and bombing ISIS and pushing them back, than those jihadi demons having free reign to kill, rape and destroy at will.

I think that they targeted this administrations terrorists first for two reasons. Surprise, and to destroy their AA assets. They have no intention of ‘cooperating’ with Obama’s janissaries and being led into setups.
