CHILLICOTHE — You know the tale about the tortoise and the hare? In beating the odds, that’s nothing compared to a plucky snapping turtle in Chillicothe.

The critter was brutally stabbed through its shell and body, then survived for days — teeming with blood and maggots — before lumbering into a Chillicothe neighborhood Saturday. There, Paul and Diane Tuttle spotted the turtle a yellow screwdriver sticking out of its green shell, yet persistently plodding upon the pavement.

Who would do such a cruel thing to an animal? Paul Tuttle, an 18-year Peoria police officer, says the stabbing was no accident — no instance of hunting gone wrong.

This is nothing to make jokes about. The primary characteristic of child molesters is that they start with animals. Aside from that, reptiles feel pain just as we do. There is some sick bastard out there.

It’s pretty stupid. But this is news? Really? We are this devolved as a species that this is actual news?

Could have been an abortionist from Planned Parenthood, too. They don’t seem to care about the suffering and pain of other living things.

Well yes, but if something bites me I’m going to hit it with whatever I have.

Being devolved would cause us not to care.

No. you are the only one who devolved.

Most of us at home hunt our property but we love animals too.

I would never want to see an animal suffer and would go after anyone who does.

It can be somewhat of a paradox, but animals raised for food would not be born was it not for our need to eat.

We have been given dominion over the animals; as such, they are largely at our mercy. To mistreat anything, animal or another human being is unthinkable. - Twinkie puts bugs out in the yard when I catch one in the house. Spiders I just leave alone to eat up the ants & stuff (they gotta eat, too!) - Dub (the dog) caught a big old moth the other day and ate it up like it was a delicacy. I tried to catch it so I could evict it; but it kept fluttering around & I couldn’t manage to catch it. - I eat meat, fish, things like that; but I don’t want anything to be killed without mercy or cruelly. - Parents need to raise their kids to be more responsible.

I read the article. 100 years old. It’s sick what was done, and i wouldn’t mind doing it to the perpetrator.

i’m not a tree hugger or ASPCA nut, but there’s no reason to be cruel.

If someone did that to my cat, it would be their last day on earth.

Funny that this upsets you so but you said you were
‘bemused’ by the planned parenthood videos. And you did cire ‘bemusement’ as your reason for your silence.

I don’t know about child molesters but serial killers for sure. They get off on pain and death, it gives them a rush, they are fascinated by it and as they get older it progresses, they take it to the next level and then the next until they start killing humans. Jeffrey Dahmer was a classic case of that. He started on frogs, squirrels, then progressed to cats and dogs and then humans. When I was a Boy scout in the 1970s there was a kid in our troop who was just like that, we would be standing around the campfire and he would catch frogs and salamanders, and throw them on the hot skillet while they were alive or put them on a log and slowly cut off their limbs with a pocket knife and me and my brother would look at each other “There is something wrong with this kid”. You could see the geek come out of him, intense fascination with death, I never knew what became of him but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if turned into a killer

I've hunted, killed and ate a lot of things in my life. We raised livestock as well, I have no hangups about it... to a level that may horrify many liberals.

That being said, I've no tolerance for torturing things or allowing them to suffer needlessly. I believe strongly in humane kills. If I wound something, I consider it my duty to keep going until it's dead, no matter how difficult or hard to find. Even the extermination of hundreds of squirrels on my property that I never eat. It's not right and it's not human to let them suffer one moment longer than necessary. This sort of thing really angers me, there is zero respect for wildlife and no recognition of humanity. These acts spawn from evil minds.

I think most of us probably needlessly killed something when we were younger... be it a frog, bird, whatever. Most of us felt guilty and learned a tough lesson in doing so, then never did it again. The people who do this sort of thing concern me
