Rand Paul: Ted Cruz ‘Pretty Much Done For’ in Senate
ROLL CALL ^ | Sept. 29, 2015 | Niels Lesniewski

Posted on 09/30/2015 6:28:12 AM PDT by McGruff

Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday said fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted. Cruz is “done for” in the Senate.

“Ted has chosen to make this really personal and chosen to call people dishonest in leadership and call them names, which really goes against the decorum and also against the rules of the Senate, and as a consequence, he can’t get anything done legislatively,” Paul told Fox News Radio. “He is pretty much done for and stifled and it’s really because of personal relationships, or lack of personal relationships, and it is a problem.”

SENATE HISTORY

1878-1920

February 22, 1902
Senate Fistfight

From its earliest days, the Senate has consistently stressed the importance of decorum in its proceedings. Of the Senate's first 20 rules, 10 dealt with proper behavior. Vice President Thomas Jefferson included in his now-classic Manual of Parliamentary Practice a telling passage that reads as if it had been taken from a schoolroom wall. "No one is to disturb another in his speech by hissing, coughing, spitting, speaking or whispering to another; nor to stand up or interrupt him; nor to pass between the Speaker and the speaking member; nor to go across the [Senate chamber], or to walk up and down it, or to take books or papers from the [clerk's] table, or write there."

On February 22, 1902, John McLaurin, South Carolina's junior senator, raced into the Senate Chamber and pronounced that state's senior senator, Ben Tillman, guilty of "a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie." Standing nearby, Tillman spun around and punched McLaurin squarely in the jaw. The chamber exploded in pandemonium as members struggled to separate both members of the South Carolina delegation. In a long moment, it was over, but not without stinging bruises both to bystanders and to the Senate's sense of decorum.

Although Tillman and McLaurin had once been political allies, the relationship had recently cooled. Both were Democrats, but McLaurin had moved closer to the Republicans, who then controlled Congress, the White House, and a lot of South Carolina patronage. When McLaurin changed his position to support Republicans on a controversial treaty, Tillman's rage erupted. With McLaurin away from the chamber, he had charged that his colleague had succumbed to "improper influences."

On February 28, 1902, the Senate censured both men and added to its rules the provision that survives today as part of Rule XIX: "No senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."

In his book, Ted Cruz gives a detailed account of his Obamacare filibuster. He says that Mike Lee stayed with him the entire time, even throughout the night, asking questions that would fill forty-five minutes in order to give Ted’s voice a rest.

But, Ted says, Rand Paul came to the Senate floor to ask pointedly hostile questions about his efforts, such as, “Do you want to shut down the government or wouldn’t you like to find something to help improve Obamacare?” and “Will you accept a compromise? Will you work with the President?”

Screw the senate and their blasted decorum.

These people are not royalty! They are just over-paid crooks that are given 6 year terms to be utterly useless.

make this really personal and chosen to call people dishonest in leadership

To me it is personal. When elected officials lie and cheat the voters then I would say they are dishonest. Keep speaking the truth, Ted! We need more people like you!

I don’t know if people understand the extent of what Cruz did. Rand Paul is only a small mouthpiece for the wicked, but sums up their view. Cruz is a Jeremiah for our times. He is really flying solo. People think Cruz just called out a few fakes and frauds in Congress? It’s not just Congress — the media, hollywood, corporate socialists, NWO, PP baby killers, the list goes on. I guess Cruz had enough of the lot of them. People don’t understand it not just a political clique in DC that opposes Cruz, he has now the entire evil Cabal with all its tentacles in every form out to curse. May God Almighty kindly protect him and his family.

“Ted has chosen to make this really personal and chosen to call people dishonest in leadership and call them names ..."

Ted has chosen to stand up for the American people, rather than kiss Mitch '0bama's Bitch' ample arse,Rand.

If the democrats ran a pro-gun, pro-life, anti-gay marriage candidate they would win easily in KY, it wouldn’t be close.
