House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is pitching himself for the role of the next speaker of the House and says hes the leader who will know how to pick his battles and bring everyone to the table.
McCarthy laid out his vision for the speakership Tuesday in an interview with CNNs Jake Tapper on The Lead, saying he wouldnt shy away from a fight, but he wouldnt enter one that was futile.
Im willing to fight but I want to fight to win, McCarthy said when asked about the call by some Republicans to force a government shutdown fight in an effort to defund Planned Parenthood.
McCarthy said he supports a bottom-up approach to leading, where Republicans first put forward their policies and plans, use committees to do the groundwork, and then let that effort result in winning a vote on a policy.

The California Republican, who is currently John Boehners No. 2, has a large base of support in his effort to win the speakership and is the clear front-runner for the position.
(snip)
He has been conducting a disciplined outreach effort to recruit support for his run, and hes positioning himself as an inclusive leader.
(snip)
He continued to say that the culture hed set as speaker is that everybody gets a voice even the opposing side.

GOP's Gowdy says he's not running, won't be drafted for House majority leader
But I hear that she can suck a tennis ball through a garden hose...!
Good Lord!! You said that, not me :)
I cant help but laugh at all politicians when they use the term fight
**************
When they say “fight” they mean “talk”. A barrage of words instead of any tangible results. You’re right; most of it is pure rhetoric. But it seems to work for them. It seems they are able to fool most of the people most of the time.
So, Kevin, should we believe what you are saying now as you are jockeying for promotion, or should we believe your actual track record instead?
As Cruz says, show me where you have fought for smaller government, personal liberty, and individual responsibility. Or have you been too busy with Silicon Valley executives and movie stars to get your hands dirty with those mundane matters?
I know... “Lord, I apologize for that there... and bless all the pygmies in New Guinea. Amen.”
GOP has to do better than McCarthy. If this JA gets voted in as speaker, I’d assume the only upside is that President Trump will only need to send him the right sized checks to get things done. From what very little I’ve seen of McCarthy, he seems like a slimeball.
McCarthy won’t win against the Obama/McConnell team.
Just googled McCarthy and the articles that have been written about his affair seem fairly credible. Why is this man even thinking of taking the Speaker’s position with that skeleton clanking around in his closet? Good grief. He is doomed from the start.
Meet the new boss,
Same as the old boss
I don’t think its going to be much of a fight. McCarthy is the chosen one.
Louie Ghomert—TX looks good to me or Ted Yoho—Fl. would be a good pick.
No.
Next.
It’s as if eveyone is satisfied with being a pawn in a game that is already fixed.
Fight WHO to win?
My bet is he’ll fight conservatives, just like Boehner.
...for the Democrats.
Hugh Hewitt likes him so that also makes him suspect.
Just like he fought for our CA House seats. Right.
