"The correct response to this is to put a couple aircraft carriers and several destroyers in the Black Sea a few miles offshore of Crimea and tell the Russkies to get out."

That's insane. Russia would fight an existential war, inclusive of nukes, to protect Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

The US will not. Rightfully so.

FSA Captain Iyad al-Deek was killed in the Russian air strikes in north Homs

-NOW we know for sure the Russians went after the US-backed FSA leadership in Homs. It goes a long way to explaining Horseface Kerry’s “Indignation” in front of the UN right now.

The FSA in the area is sitting astride the strategic North-South Highway from Damascus to homs, to Idlib.

None of those you listed have any direct bearing on the US. And the “he scared us flying too close” instance is just exactly what the US did for years during th cold war. There hasn’t even been a good “ship bumping” incident by either sid in years.

Both sides are just as innocent and just as guilty.

“We bad need a new CiC, the one we have now is incompetent, and will get Americans killed.”

The Fraud is NOT incompetent (except perhaps on the Links, or else we would know his scores) and HAS GOTTEN Americans killed in his successful quest to “fundamentally transform America”.

You don't believe the US has lost/squandered significant moral authority throughout the world? First Libya, now Syria - it seems to be the final straw. The disruption - in humanitarian terms - is providing the means for Russia to assume a mantle of positive force.

Moral authority? Did you support the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan to liberate them from dictators at the cost of trillions of dollars and thousands of lives? Did you support the removal of Saddam Hussein from Kuwait at the costs of billions and hundreds of American lives? How many Americans must die and how much money should we spend to demonstrate our moral authority? The deaths in Libya and Syria are the result of civil wars, which we have no responsibility for. And we were and are part of a coalition of nations. What responsibilty do they bear?

You can argue until you're blue in the face, but until you can convince people in other countries that we're still the "good guys", we are witnessing the slow beginnings of the beginning.

We are and continue to be the good guys. We have a lot of skin in the game with little to show for it. The test should always be what is in our national strategic interests. There are limits to what America can and should do.

And I think our inside people know this. The only option is war with not one, but two+ nuclear equipped adversaries. We won't pull the trigger, and they will simply but surely continue filling the void.

Once nations acquire nuclear weapons, they limit what we or any other outside interests can do to them. This is one reason why Iran wants a nuclear weapon and why NK, Pakistan, India, Israel, and China acquired these weapons. Proliferation will accelerate once Iran has a weapon.

To be honest, one can be fairly stoic/philosophical about this: was the USA to last forever? If not, when/how would it decline? Aren't all the pieces that one would cite now in position? So why would anyone be surprised that it's occurring now?

America's decline is no different than many other "empires" before. It is an implosion rather than outside influences taking down a global power. We are being destroyed by the welfare state (Guns vs Butter and butter always wins) and mass (lgal) immigration.

Russia is supporting Assad.

How does that lead to Iran taking over Syria?

Russia has stated, repeatedly and clearly, their mission is to support Assad and his his government against all factions...inclusive of ISIS.

The US should just back off a bit, keep forces in the area, and see what happens.

The goal of any SANE Potus in this situation would be STABILITY and Law and Order. This would stem the flow of refugees and allow those now in Europe to return home.

It also places state actors in the seat of any fire that comes across the Golan.

What I cannot understand is why Putin is taking this action when it so closely parallels US and Israeli interests.

“Russia is supporting Assad.

How does that lead to Iran taking over Syria?”

If anything, it prevents Iran from taking over Syria.

We are using our Air Force to protect head choppers, from their long-standing government...

Yup. If my self from 30 years ago could hear me now... in a war between Russia and the U.S. at this point... I'm for Russia!

Then we will continue to go down the same path we are on.

Who says it’s not an existential war for us?

Just give it time.

?Please point to the instances where the Constitution has stopped 0bama from his many illegal activities. He operates by executive order and via edicts from his many (unconstitutional) department “Czars”.i>

Right now, Obama's second executive amnesty is on hold due to the courts. There have been a number of SCOTUS decisions that have restrained him. And Congress has taken a number of actions to thwart some of the Obama agenda.

Even Putin followed his country’s law by requesting authorization before starting the bombing in Syria.

LOL. Do you really believe that the Russian parliament can act against Putin? Do you understand how dictatorships work? I lived in a communist controlled country for two years. They all like to use the facade of democracy to fool people like you. LOL.

The “official” didn't mention that just a few a weeks ago, If I recall correctly; ISIS fighters were on the outskirts of Damascus?

I dare say, I believe our Intel is not up to par at all.

Not to mention the manipulation of it for political purposes.

At this point our best play is to move our forces to a safe distance and hold at station keeping. If something should threaten what is left of our allies in the region we can respond to it from there.

In the meantime...let the Rooskies and their friends bomb the living Shite out of anything they damned well please!

The Turks must be thrilled huh?

:-)

We’ve been over there for a while - spilling blood and treasure... are you saying we were ‘close’... really close - to a break-through?

Until we elect a new President there’s not much we can accomplish... not because we’re not capable but because Obama has a track record... and it ain’t pretty.

And yet the 0bama admin continues to violate those court orders with impunity. They have been called into court twice and told to cease and desist on their ignoring of the court orders, and nothing has happened.

And LOL 0bama even considering making anything look legit by consulting congress on conducting foreign wars. He just blows it off like the scofflaw he is.

And treaties?” We don’t need no stinkin treaties, I’ll just call them Executive Agreements, Congress can just take a hike.”
