Pope Francis says government workers have the right to refuse to issue gay marriage licenses

Pope Francis told reporters on his flight back to Rome from the US today that government workers issuing gay marriage licesnses have a "human right" to refuse to do their duty if it goes against their conscience.

Thus, the pontiff  directly injected himself into the Kim Davis controversy - the Kentucky clerk who went to jail because she refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.

Reuters:

Pope Francis said on Monday government officials have a "human right" to refuse to discharge a duty, such as issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals, if they feel it violates their conscience.

Speaking to reporters as he returned home from a 10-day trip to the United States andCuba, Francis also repeated his condemnation of priests who had sexually abused children, saying the victims had been "crushed by evil".

Although the Argentine-born pontiff delved into some of the United States' thorniest political debates during his visit, he never specifically referred to a controversy over same-sex marriages, which the Church firmly opposes.

On the flight back to Rome, he was asked if he supported individuals, including government officials, who refuse to abide by some laws, such as issuing marriage licenses to gays.

"Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right," Francis said.

Earlier this month a city official in the U.S. state of Kentucky, Kim Davis, went to jail because she refused to issue a marriage license to a gay couple following a Supreme Court decision to make homosexual marriage legal.

Davis's case has taken on national significance in the 2016 presidential campaign, with one Republican contender, Mike Huckabee, holding rallies in favor of Davis, a Apostolic Christian, who has since joined the Republican party.

Isn’t the Pope considered infallible only on matters of theology?

There goes the Bromance liberals have had with Pope Francis over his communist/socialist/climate change views.

Yes, too late. It would have made an impact if the pope had said it during his speech to Congress. But I guess he thought it was more important to talk about the evils of capitalism.

Matters of conscience had to wait for the plane ride home.

Faith and morals - and only under certain conditions.

Now what about the 57,000,000 who have been aborted in this country.

This is the environmental pollution we need to worry about. The Earth has been desecrated by their blood and bodies no matter what state they ultimately arrive at the garbage dumps.

We have committed great evil in the name of convenience and I believe we are going down for it. The pope shows little concern.

This faux pas (which it was) will be readily dismissed by the blood-thirsty homo-left, which loves this pope for his utility for their agenda.

While Kim Davis inserted her Christian beliefs into not issuing marriage licenses to gays/lesbians, there is no legal right to gay marriage except in states that have made it legal through their legislatures.

Now Congress has to either pass a law and all states must fall in line and pass their own “compliant” law. Until that time, no marriage license should be issued in any state that doesn’t already have such a law.

Barry Soetoro now says that Gay rights trump the First Amendment - this man is beyond evil and is nothing but a CHAOS monger - anyone running for president who doesn’t understand and support the Rule of Law, not just the ones they like, will keep the tyranny going until our country is totally unrecognizable (what is happening in Germany is intentional and meant to destroy that country’s sovereignty).

Yup. Sure would've liked to see a gathering for him in Iowa or Texas, rather than Pilly (queer capital of the east coast).
