First women to pass Ranger School were given extra training and lowered benchmarks after General vow

The first two women to graduate from Ranger School have had their elite status questioned amid claims that Army officials vowed to pass at least one of them before the course even started. Back in January a general is claimed to have told his subordinates that 'a woman will graduate Ranger School' this year, as part of the first ever class to include serving female soldiers. The general, who has not been named, reportedly added: 'At least one will get through', according to People. In August, Capt Shaye Haver and First Lt Kristen Griest became the first two women to graduate from the school, having taken four months to pass all the tests.

How quaint.

In a hostile environment, quaint can get you killed.

First, your lack of “sources” other” than your “word” weakens your statement.
Second: You stated “They were, however, measured against the same benchmarks as everyone else once they were physically at Ranger School, including when recycled” The article stated that males had a pass fail, no do overs. So while the specific standards may have been the same for each event, the do-overs says they were given more chances than the males, thus you cannot say the standards — all the standards were the same.
Finally, wonder how that two star would feel in combat if his life depended solely on the two female Rangers Ranger training to save his life.

Winning wars is secondary to political correctness.

Don’t think that Vladamir Putin and Xi Jinping will ignore this important development.

The only question is whether they will stop laughing long enough to do anything about it.

Looks like “the general” had his orders. You can kiss the US Military good bye.

are there any rangers that qualified prior to 1992 on the boards? i’d be interested to hear the differences in qualifications. going through the requirements, it seems to focus on personal endurance and physical fitness and not physical prowess.

my impression of specops warriors is that they are extreme specimens, then again that impression was solidified in the 80s. these were people that not only could do sit ups, push ups, and run for a few miles... but could do it while in full gear while kicking your ass.

i’m wondering because if the qualifications have changed from prowess to fitness, then women should be able to pass as they’re only struggling against themselves and not some massive object (like carrying a 200 lb log)

thoughts?

I hope what you typed is true.

Only the cream of the Army should be going to Ranger School, whether they be male or female. The standards must remain high for the best of the best. I truly hope the Daily Mail is wrong about this. Those two female Rangers will have to prove themselves over and over again. I hope they are up to the challenges.

Back when I was young and healthy, I went through the 4th Infantry’s RECONDO school; essentially, “Ranger-lite”.

I successfully completed it, but it darned-near kilt me.

I would never have survived Ranger school.

What happens when one of these women are captured while doing what Rangers do? Ranger men do battle with ISIS who are men. Should a female Ranger is captured by a gang of ISIS or any of their ilk, the female Ranger will become the cushion the ISIS or their ilk will keep using for a “pin” cushion. (yes, I sew)

So now for the next step. Once a few more women”pass” it will be determined that there aren’t enough to satisfy the PC gods. Word will come down from the White Hut that there will be a certain percentage of women Rangers, reality be dammed. It will turn earning a Ranger tab into getting a participation ribbon and a juice box.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that 2% of a very select group of extraordinarily gifted women could legitimately graduate from Ranger School, especially given multiple recycle opportunities. Those two women are exceptional even if some of the standards were relaxed. But despite what the Army did to given women a chance, only 2 of 100 succeeded. And remember, Ranger School is not combat, it a leader development course designed to put leaders in stressful situations that are close to combat, but without the shock of real combat. Believe me, that part is significant.

Allowing women to be assigned to the ground gaining combat arms is irresponsible, and no matter how many women are awarded with a Ranger Tab, or how many may experience combat in the course of their other Army duties will not change that simple fact.

Interesting observation.

My contacts indicate the opposite and support the allegations of favoritism and lowering of standards; Instances where they were not forced to carry their share of crew-served weapons, lighter packs, more time to rest, etc. . .this does not surprise as it aligns with my personal observation: I was in a fighter squadron when we were TOLD the first female to fly fighters would be coming to our squadron and she WILL check-out MR on-time, will up-grade to 2-ship and 4-ship flight lead on-time, and by the way, we need three volunteers to stand with public affairs during a press conference in 3-hrs, supporting her arrival.

Thing is, there is no such thing as ‘on-time’ for any of the check-out processes, just number of rides and those rides may be extended or shortened depending on how well you perform.

Oh, and the fact that we in the fighter world are harsh and unforgiving mostly during post-flight de-briefs, and the fact she CRIED during de-briefs and the instructors were told to back off, sheesh. . .like any male would be given the soft-treatment instead of being washed out for being unable to handle the stress. . .and this female was going to fly fighters?

Of course, I will not mention she said in a interview in the local paper that she was a vegan because she was morally opposed to killing animals for food but yet she was willing to shred people (too include those unfortunate innocents that would be collateral damage).

How many other rangers will die or get injured preventing that from happening? Not to mention unit cohesion. Men are men they are bound to treat women differently. It is human nature.

I know for a fact i would not be able to “cut it”. And I’m a tough old bird. (17 hours on a Sporster in raging thunder storms...climbing waterfalls, open helicoptering over erupting volcano, having best friend die in my arms on said flight, etc)

Well congrats for passing that course. Good for you.

I’m sure it was no easy task.

“Those two female Rangers will have to prove themselves over and over again”

I humbly suggest this is not the situation at all.

I think they will be walking on a red carpet the rest of their career. . .having to prove nothing to nobody, and if anyone challenges or questions their fitness for the tab or any role, that person will be crucified.

It wasn’t in the service...Those things happened to me when i was on VACATION!

Seriously...I am too old for that stuff now!

But my friend’s death in the helicopter took place just a few years ago, July 4th, 2013.

Ouch!

Sorry to hear about your friend there too.

I didn’t pick up on the civilian aspect of your experience.

Thanks for the correction.

I would’ve passed that course no problems. But then I once drove dirt track in West Virginia and made it through Navy boot camp.
