Grassroots voters in 2014 apparently foiled a secret plan by House Speaker Rep. John Boehner to give his top job to the partys House Majority Leader, Rep. Eric Cantor, who is a close ally of the GOPs establishment wing.
The plan suddenly collapsed last June after Cantors constituents in Virginias 7th district rejected him in favor of his primary challenger, economics professor Rep. Dave Brat. Brat won by blasting Cantor for mimicking Senator Sen. Marco Rubios effort to pass the mass-amnesty bill that would further raise high immigration levels.
The Speakers plan was to serve only through the end of last year. Leader Cantors loss in his primary changed that calculation, said a Boehner aide, according to The Huffington Post.
The Huffington Post explains that had Cantor not lost his primary, Boehner would have stepped aside to allow Cantor to fill his place:
Cantors 2014 primary loss was not just a remarkable political turn of events, but a complete twist of history. The Virginia Republican, who had served as second in command in the Republican-controlled House, was stunned in his primary election campaign and decided to leave Congress altogether before his term was up. With no heir apparent, Boehner decided to stick around. But the clear implication from Boehners aide was that the original plan had been to usher Cantor into the speakers role at the turn of the year.
Thats not a on-the-record, direct confirmation of the plot but it matches the public evidence.

Those of us here on FR were ahead of the game, and were well aware of this plot...for it was obvious.
And you can be sure he’s only stepping down now because the votes have been more than secured for another donor class-approved, big-government, amnesty-pimping RINO, i.e. McCarthy. We’re trading Fidel for Raul.

Yup. The GOP establishment is going to parachute in uber-liberal McCarthy.
The fix is in.
Take his orange hue and go back to being a battered husband.
It was no secret that Cantor wanted to be the next Speaker.
This sorry drunk will try to fund baby killing and selling their little organs for $6o an organ NEXT WEEK as h his LEGACY . I hate that bastard sooo bad. dO NOT LET YOUR CONGRESSMAN FOLLOW!!FIRE AWAY NOW!!
Escort him to the door now, you know, like many businesses do so those employees don’t screw anything up during the last few weeks.
The capo is dead long live the new consigliere..
Democracy has always been Mob Rule by mobsters..

Oh! and term limits..
Mark Levin was going off tonight, saying McCarthy is no different than Cantor. Just 10 points lower on the IQ scale.
His base appears to be Silicon Valley and the cheap labor express.
It does not match the public evidence.
Pelosi - party lost control
Hastert - party lost control
Gingrich - party lost 5 seats
- unusual for the party not controlling the White House to lose seats in an off-year election
- Gingrich had staked the election on Clinton’s impeachment.
Foley - party lost control and he lost his seat
Wright - resigned the speakership in the face of an ethics investigation; resigned his seat after selection of Foley.
O’Neill - did not run for re-election
Albert - did not run for re-election
McCormack - did not run for re-election
Is there ANY instance of a speaker staying on during his successor of the same party’s term? I don’t think so.
Ohio’s primary in 2014 was prior to Virginia’s.
TC is busy. Elect Mike Lee.
Be sure you get to his computer before he has it wiped. We know that he and old Mitch have cut big bad deals with the Marxist in Chief.
Exactly..
He can still follow Boehner as the House Weeper...
There have been several [planted]stories predicting a shutdown will no longer be a probability because the conservative wing of the party has been handed a victory.
It has also been reported Boehner will get a clean resolution passed. In return Planned Parenthood funding will be dealt with using reconciliation.
My gut reactions:
Who are the idiots trying to pass the idea that Boehner’s resignation will make slice & dice, organ harvesting and profiteering from aborted and not yet aborted babies okay?
Boehner has lied to GOP members of Congress before a vote he wanted passed. He has a track record. Think he won't do it again? Anyone believing he would keep his word should be impeached on grounds of being a moron.
Elect Mark Levin. Just a thought.
I’m not understanding the logic. We’re supposed to be happy Boehner screws over the country because we’re promised he’ll be punished later?
So if your kid asks you to give him permission to cut class and go drinking with his friends because he’ll agree to let you punish him later, a parent is supposed to agree to that?
Welcome to morality in the beltway, where everything’s up for negotiation.
Hear, hear. Mike Lee needs to be heard from more, and this is a good position for him.
