Glad you enjoyed it. It really tugged my heart strings the first time I played it and it still does, every time. I guess because I’ve been somewhat of a Campbell fan since I was a teen.

Doug’s been in the music business for several years and does a lot music scores for tv shows and such in LA. Got a couple of BMI awards for one of his scores a few years ago.
For a while, he was Iron Butterfly’s guitarist when they toured during the ‘80s and ‘90s. He comes to TN periodically to work with Nashville musicians too. He’s into all kinds of stuff and I can’t keep up with it all. LOL!

#18: Doris Day: Everybody Loves a Lover
I knew Doris Day before she was a virgin. Oscar Levant
I covered Doris life story when I did her 1945 hits for our VJ Day celebration last month. Shes 91 years old, and the rumor is that Clint Eastwood has asked her to co-star in a film where they will play elderly homesteaders in a family-oriented western. Doris: Every once in a while I think about working again but they don't make the kind of movies I made any more. It's a different world.
This recording was produced by Frank DeVol, noted for his movie soundtracks. He even showed his comedy chops playing a straight-faced contractor in Im Dickens, Hes Fenster, a short lived TV sitcom from 1961 that has become a cult classic.

Another Jimmy Webb classic. He wrote at an amazing rate in those days.

Hi mylife!
So that’s where the guitarist and bass player went? I remember hearing of the band back in those days but never bought any of their music.
Now I’m curious if there are any videos from Iron Butterfly’s comeback tours when Doug was with them. Gonna have to dig around and look. Now see what ya did? LOL!

#1: Domenico Modugno: Volare
Domenico Modugno (1928-94) wanted to be an actor more than anything else. Even at acting school he found roles in several films, but his major break came in managing a comedy duo and then singing. In 1958 he co-wrote and sang this number which became an international hit, making him enormously wealthy. His film career blossomed, and he turned to opera in his later years.
A stroke in 1984 turned him into a champion for the disabled, and he was elected to Parliament as a member of the Radical Party. He returned to recording in 1990 but was finished off by a heart attack in 1994.
Volare means to fly, and cantare means to sing.
Domenico Modugno: Volare
Thats it for this weekend! See you next weekend for October 1959! Cue the Rockumentary theme on Turntable Two!
