Rick Santorum accuses Ted Cruz of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants
washington times ^ | 9/25/2015 | Seth McLaughlin

Posted on 09/25/2015 9:47:22 AM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum vowed Friday to pursue immigration policies that protect American workers, while warning voters that some of his GOP rivals have embraced a much softer approach to the issue. Mr. Santorum, the runner-up in the 2012 Republican nomination battle, urged the crowd that converged on a hotel in Washington, D.C., for the annual Values Voter Summit to recognize that a couple of the speakers before him — Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz — have previously supported “amnesty” for illegal immigrants. “You have a lot of people that come up here and talk about how tough they are, but they actually support amnesty. The speaker just before me running for president, he will tell you how tough he is,” Mr. Santorum said, alluding to Mr. Cruz. “He offered an amendment to allow people to stay in this country indefinitely. To me, that is amnesty.” Mr. Santorum has struggled to gain a foothold in national polling and is running near the back of the pack. With that as a backdrop, the 57-year-old has staked a lot in the immigration debate. He also has touted the conservative record he compiled in Congress, including authoring legislation aimed at changing the leadership of the Iranian government. Mr. Santorum served in the House from 1991 to 1995 and in the Senate from 1995 to 2007 when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Bob Casey Jr. by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.

For the one-hundred thousandth time, Cruz’s plan has nothing to do with increasing H1-B visas for regular joe-schmoe foreign tech workers that are currently being exploited and abused by Microsoft and Silicon Valley.

he hasn't said he recognizes that the current H-1B legislation allows exactly the low-salary dronery we're seeing ... that is, that it's not "abuse" of the law but bad law.

Cruz’s plan has nothing to do with increasing H1-B visas for regular joe-schmoe foreign tech workers

If visas are increased under current H-1B legislation, we'll merely get more of the regular joe-schmoe foreign tech workers we've already gotten - and I haven't seen a "Cruz plan" that notes the need for changes to the current legislation. If you've seen such a plan, feel free to post a link.

Cruz would overhaul the H1-B visa process so that the critical, high-demand jobs get filled immediately, and he would change it so the current abuses would stop. Over time, as market forces return to education and the market itself, Americans would resume filling these critical roles.

And when I'm talking about these types of jobs, these are military, energy, space exploration - cutting edge stuff. And the applicants under Cruz's plan would likely NOT come from the Middle East or from the Indian sub-continent. They would likely come from Europe or our allies in Asia.

I am telling you. Cruz is already 10 years ahead of all of his competitors - including Donald Trump. He sees the road ahead while his competitors are looking for the next Rest Stop.

... but he does advocate amnesty for them via legalization.

I don't think he does.

Anyone who talks about "abuses" is ignorant of the program (or hopes their audience is):

H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Replace Americans with Cheap Foreign Workers
H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Pay Foreign Workers Extremely Low Wages

Look, I worked in Personnel for 7 years. Wages and Salary are two very different types of payrolls.

Wages are paid on hourly people, who punch a time clock or fill out a timecard. Normal hourly payrolls are weekly or bi-monthly. Salary payrolls are always bi-monthly; with most all taxes or fees taken out the first paycheck, and the 2nd check for the month is just straight salary.

Who is CIS anyway .. because they definitely do not know what an H1B Visa is .. or else they have written this to fool people.

“Cruz doesn’t advocate citizenship for illegals, but he does advocate amnesty for them via legalization.”

Cruz has NEVER advocated for amnesty of any kind. He IS FOR legal immigration. This means, entering the country the legal way; learning English, and meeting other citizenship goals; then, there is a possibility, the person can become a citizen.

To blatantly say Cruz is for any kind of Amnesty .. is just a plain old LIE. And .. since you won’t read any of the information regarding Cruz, or you won’t listen to what HE HAS to say; but only consider what some other person says, I’m going to call you on it.

Well, listen here “moron” .. after many years of working in Personnel, I can tell you “wages” does mean something. It means the person is an HOURLY WORKER.

Stuff it.

Not what I was getting at, but since you asked:
Presidents have sway on “big picture” legislation. “Vision Pieces”, if you will. H1Bs are not a big picture item; they are a subset of the immigration debate.

Ideally, we want a President who will veto bad bills and sign good bills, not try to impose his will on the legislative branch. Seperation of powers is a good thing, remember.

They are working FOR THE COMPANY. It’s up to them to decide what to do. They can cancel the Visa, and send the person home if they want. Or, they can let them stay.

But, what you suggest is the main issue with birthright citizenship. Since the person here on a Visa is a citizen of another country, the child should automatically become a citizen of THAT country (the mother’s country), not the USA.

Cruz should think again if that’s really in his mind. Cruz won his Senate seat for the same reason Republicans have been winning in Texas since the mid 90s; because whites in Texas are conservative and he won over 70% of them.

He may have won 40% of Hispanics, which is good for a Republican, but it was still a double digit loss with that group. He likely wouldn’t do even that well in a national election.

I don’t have a problem with that as long as they follow all the laws in place. I have had experience with the legal immigration system and my thoughts are that it won’t be very fast and I suspect relatively few will make it all the way through the process.

Yes they should but that is not the case today. We have done our very best to commit suicide and it looks like we will succeed, to the roaring applause of the elitists of the uniparty.

Cruz is my second choice after Trump (and Trump unfortunately would also legalize most illegals here illegally now). Cruz deceptively claims that he is not for “amnesty” (every pol claims to be against “amnesty”, because voters are against it.) But he would provide legalizationn for illegals which is, by definition amnesty. Cruz seems to justify his blatant misstatement on his own position because he opposes granting citizenship to them.

“By definition

If you have a HB1 visa you are not here illegally, so how is supporting increasing hb1 visas supporting amnesty or letting people stay here indefinitely?

By definition, but not by practice. India has many illegal aliens here, too. It isn’t just Mexico and South and Central Americans illegally here.

Cruz's 2013 "Gang of Eight" amendments were against a pathway citizenship but they did not address legal status.

Cruz said at that time that his "proposed amendments will effectively address the current problems with this bill.”

One should certainly infer from that, that he was for a legalized non-citizenship amnesty.

But since then, Cruz's office has said that Cruz was never for legalization, and that his amendments which left out legalization, would not have completely fixed the bill.

That position would be a flip toward non legalization, but it's a flip nevertheless.

Trump started out by saying that he will deport all illegals but recently he seems to be mentioning only the criminal illegals.

Trump does support the Session plan which is a self deportation plan.

Trump has said over and over again that he will expedite the "good ones" back in for a legalization, which suggests a legalization amnesty for all illegals except the not good ones, which are the rapists, criminals and drug dealers.

So now along comes Ricky Santorum who will claim that he is against all types of amnesty. Is he sincere or is he just trying to take Trump and Cruz down for the GOP-E?

As for me, I currently support the candidate who has flipped to the correct position over m second favorite candidate, who keeps saying that he would expedite them back in.
