In a 3,404-word address, he used only 75 words on the two topics.
Pope Francis touched on many topics in his speech to Congress, but conservatives may have expected him to say more about abortion and same-sex marriage.
During his historic speech at a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, Pope Francis hit upon a variety of issues that have defined the Catholic church: protecting the environment, helping the poor, addressing the plight of immigrants, abolishing the death penalty and taking a stand against the proliferation of the weapons trade, to name a few.
Yet, while the pope had strong words on many of these causes, he glossed over two other topics that American bishops have strongly lobbied against in recent years: abortion and same-sex marriage. In fact, he did not even mention them by name.

This pope has NO moral courage, but is only a useful socialist idiots (er, fellow-travelers) as the communists described those on the propaganda trains through Russia sponsored by Stalin for their specially-connected western diplomats, news media and reporters and writers, and authors.
Those who cooperated with the communists got their Pulitzer Prizes. Their Peace prizes. Their money, fame, and adulation from their fellow elite socialists.
The Pope has to much to do in his Church to clean it up, he shouldn't be going around opening anyone else’s closet until he can open his own...
America is different than any other Country, we have a Constitution and Bill of Rights and we try to decide what is best for here...(right now that's not working very well)
I haven't liked this Pope from the beginning and I'm Catholic...I have seen some people that used to come to Mass that don't anymore...we are told to have faith and believe that God will take care of us, but when you have a Pope such as this, it makes it hard...
The point was he didn’t mention Jesus.
Did he spend any time preaching the Gospel?
How many times did the Vicar of Christ say the name “ Jesus” or the term “ Jesus Christ”?
He just saud treat them as we would want to be treated
If 20,000,000 of us went to Cancun and Acapulco wouldn’t we all expect free housing , food , shopping , schools , healthcare, and all local dealings into English?
I couldn’t read the words, but I’ll take your word for it.
Boehner did weep a river the entire time
Consider the budget passed
Not a Pope, but a Poletician
57 million souls went unrecognized except in a generalized platitude
How about Christian persecution and genocide? Did those make it to the top 10 concerns of the leader of Christ's church on earth?
I have long said this guy will declare Jesus was merely a metaphor.
Bank on it happening.
You simply cannot have 80% of the world’s population living in the richest countries. The approach needs to be on how to improve life in the rest of those countries so people won’t feel compelled to move.
My wife is Catholic and she can’t stand this guy Thinks he’s a charlatan, a busyboy, a far left politician in disguise. And several of her Catholic friends feel the same way, as do many of my Protestant friends. This guy just lacks the characteristics of a true Pope, a caring, loving man of faith.
If you hit the CTRL key on your keyboard and then at the same time the “f” key, a box will come up at the top right of your screen, and you can type in any word you want to search the document for that’s currently on your screen. So the one that was listed [the pope’s speech], was searched for “Jesus,” but nothing came up.
It’s a great way to search what politicians say in speeches. I searched Christian in the transcripts of the CNN Debate, and Bobby Jindal spoke of Christianity six times, two other politicians [Kasich and Bush] did so only once each, and the rest were zero.
Il Papa doesn’t have the MORAL courage to deal with prisoners in Cuba or the Abortion infanticide in the U.S.
True. Our fears were well founded.
I don't know much about the Bible, just what I glean here and the passages those two nice ladies who come by once a month read to me. So, anyone, correct me where my ignorance shows.
Doesn't the Bible say something about the separation of powers, Church and State? So how does the Pope get involved with the refugee issue without bringing up the need to obey the laws of nations?
Then there's the "Global Warming" stuff. There's religious doctrine about being good stewards of the earth, but is there anything there about global warming? And shouldn't the spokesman for the Church use quotes from Scripture and Church Doctrine to enrich his pronouncements?
Did be mention the slaughter of the pre-born and just-born and the selling of their body parts? Did he say anything about the pure evil of ISIS? Anything about how Christians should confront evil?
But I'm saved. It's warm today and I don't use air-conditioning. So I guess it's okay to invade some country, slaughter a pre-born child at birth, and behead a few dudes in the ME.
End of rant. Mygosh, am I disgusted.
How could a Pope NOT mention Jesus? That was intentional!
Wow. I feel so dumb. Now I get it.
Sorry everybody. Mlizzy explained it was a word search.
(And I still feel dumb)
My wife is Catholic and is depressed and disgusted with this Pope as politician, not a man of God. She is more a Catholic than this Pope!
