Stop the Iran Deal Immediately Using This Simple Move, says Ted Cruz

Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz said on Tuesday Congress should use the threat of a government shutdown to force President Barack Obama's administration to hand over more information about the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Days after a deadline passed for Congress to vote on the nuclear pact, the 2016 presidential hopeful said any legislation to fund the government after Sept. 30 must require the administration to hand over information about "secret side deals" involving inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities.

Cruz said it would be Obama, not him, who would force a government shutdown if the president jeopardized government-wide funding by refusing to detail the Iran side deals.

The "side deals" refer to arrangements between Iran and international nuclear inspectors that lay out a framework for inspections. The International Atomic Energy Agency insists details of such arrangements must be kept confidential.

Never gonna happen.

Neither Boehner nor McConnell want a government shutdown.

In the end the GOP is going to back down any way.

But, again it is Cruz showing the way forward, and it will again be the GOP-E that refuses to fight against what now can only be said to be what the GOP-E actually believes in.

IOW, Cruz is fighting both Obama and the GOP-E who both must want this deal with Iran.

It’s not a matter of backing down. They don’t have the votes to overcome a veto. It’s ANOTHER lesson in futility.

Oddly enough, Cruz could have helped to stop the Iran deal by not voting to make it require only 1/3 of the Senate to pass.

This would work. But it’s too bad Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi run both chambers or it would be an great option.

Yes. That, TPA, and H1B are his 3 errors in my mind. I believe the only senator to vote against it was Tom Cotton, a man I am coming to really respect.

To Cruz’s credit, if there can be penance for a wrong vote, he has worked to KILL the bill in a number of ways and not simply played the show vote game on it.

This is another effort to kill it, AND to have a means to refuse funding that is directly explainable to the nation. We must not fund anything until the power brokers let us in on the dirty backroom deals they made about Iran getting nukes.

At this point, I think if the Repubs had 100% in the House, Senate and had the Presidency AND all SCOTUS was appointed by Reagan, they still would say they can’t do it.

No, because without Corker, Obama would not have submitted the deal to Congress at all. There was no way to make him call it a treaty and submit it. He was very clear about his intentions. Corker at least required him to submit ANY deal to Congress and let both the Senate and House vote on it.

Also, please note that Cruz authored two ammendments to Corker that would have required Iran to recognize Israel and that would have declared Iran a state sponsor of terrorism.

Make obama veto it and the democrats override it. No Republican should vote for this.

Indeed, but they are so epically bad at messaging that they—they GOPe— refuse to hang a shutdown on Obama’s veto.

Of course a shutdown would have been avoided anyway if McConnell had stopped Dem obstructionism on Apropriations by going nuclear.
