A loss that unquestionably transcends the game has sent all of baseball into deep mourning. Yogi Berra -- Hall of Famer, all-time Yankees legend, three-time Most Valuable Player, master of misstatement and beloved international icon, is gone. Berra died Tuesday night at age 90.

The announcement came early Wednesday morning and was announced via the Yogi Berra Museum's Twitter account.

“I met him years ago in FL as a little girl. RIP.”

“...and now you tell me that when you met him he was a little girl;>)”

I swear, no matter how off-the-wall something I want to say is, unless I get in fast, someone else has already said it! :)

Wonder what Clinton did to earn such such wrath from Yogi?
I have never heard of Berra holding any such grudge against anyone else.
The only thing I ever heard about Yogi getting mad was if someone spoke lightly of or insulted his wife.
He even accepted Stienbrenners back handed apology for sending a flunky to fire him.

Insulting Bill Clinton.
Just another reason to love Yogi Berra.

Sorry about earlier post.
I read DiMaggio but kept thinking Berra.
OK, now there’s two Yankees I can’t hate.
Good for Joe.

The really funny thing to think about, generations from now, some one will say “it ain’t over till its over” and spend a day or two wondering where the saying came from.

A little bit of Yogi Berra will live forever.

“Clinton was another president on DiMaggio’s enemies list, Engelberg said. The baseball great detested the president for everything from Whitewater to his affair with Monica Lewinsky, the magazine reported.

Refused to Shake Clinton’s Hand

DiMaggio declined to shake Clinton’s hand when the two were at Camden Yards in Baltimore in 1995 to see Cal Ripken break Lou Gehrig’s streak of consecutive games. And when Clinton called the hospital during DiMaggio’s fatal illness, the call was not put through.”—ABC News
__________________________________

“DiMaggio took special relish in snubbing the president, and in days of full health he loved to tell the story of that magical night at Camden Yards in Baltimore in September 1995 when he and Clinton were there to witness Cal Ripken as he broke Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 consecutive games. An aide approached DiMaggio and asked if it would be O.K. for the president to shake his hand.

DiMaggio looked at the aide and told him no.

He had shaken Clinton’s hand once already, before he became president, and as far as he was concerned, once was enough. When the aide asked if DiMaggio might like to sit with the president for a little bit, DiMaggio said no to that too.”

If the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be.

If you don’t know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else.

Once, Yogi’s wife Carmen asked, “Yogi, you are from St. Louis, we live in New Jersey, and you played ball in New York. If you go before I do, where would you like me to have you buried?” To this, Yogi replied, “Surprise me.”

G-D BLESS HIM. There was only one Yogi.

Oh, yeah, I remember, they had some funny Miller Light commercials back then, esp the ones with Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner, you could sense the tension between them, it was good for a laugh.
