Guy selling Volkswagen fears ‘he may be stuck with it’

“The way it is now they get more horsepower and better performance in the hidden illegal mode, why bring your car in for an upgrade that will deteriorate performance and cause components to maybe wear out faster and get lower miles per gallon?,” asks durhamgti. “VW will have to wave a big carrot in front of their customers to get them to comply.” One person wants to know how he can turn a buck in the market based on the news. “Should I buy VW’s stock since it took a dive or should I buy stock in another promising diesel vehicle from another make? hmmm…,” asked GabelessToGabeTown. See also: Volkswagen scandal slams car companies across Europe as problems widen. On Reddit the comments have gone even further afield, covering everything from the first class-action lawsuits being filed to environmental standards. “You can force me to take my car to emission testing, but nowhere does it say that my car has to be honest about it!” wrote inpu. The real fallout from the scandal has yet to begin for Volkswagen owners, especially those looking to sell, according to one expert.

I’m not sure that VW really did anything wrong here....

Here’s how it will go down.

The Dept. of Transportation will inform states that they’ll cut off their highway money unless they REFUSE to renew the plates of any un-neutere...er, unmodified VW diesel.

What VW did wrong was to prove that they were smarter than the Federal Bureaucrats regulating them by several orders of magnitude.

And for THAT, they shall pay. And pay. And pay. AND PAY!!!

The way it is now they get more horsepower and better performance in the hidden illegal mode . . . .

They did nothing wrong and we've become a nation of pussies.

>> the EPA trying to figure this one out.

Huh? The EPA has no problem putting the final burden and cost on VW owners. It’s YOUR problem, they’ll say. Fix it (we don’t care how, or how much it costs) — or stop driving the car — or go to jail. Your choice, sucka.

The EPA is pure evil. Don’t kid yourself.

If the vehicles meet emissions when driving in LA City Traffic, and in Denver City Traffic, they meet the intent.

All they did was prepare the car for the EPA test.

Everyday students are taught to the test.

Same, same.

? QUESTIONS???
How different are the US EPA specs from the rest of the world?

Does the same VW TDI get the same MPG in other tests?

Spike in sales of cut-price Jettas and Passats coming to a dealer near you...

VW- still ahead of Toyota for year-end global sales figures.

Consumers benefit, and how many people in the market for a new car (especially for the highest rated for reliability 6 cylinder Passat) are really really mad at VW for disregarding federal gubbermint emission guidelines? If VW has any brains, wear the violation as a badge of honor.

Is this like chipping whereby you put a chip in that give you the ability to load a high performance tune? Smog check? No problem, just insert a device in the the OBD port and restore the factory tune.

I would imagine there will be some 3rd party performance programmers who can change this setting after you leave the inspection station. Probably someone working on it right this minute.

Whatever. If idiot politicians insist on implementing increasingly unrealistic emissions standards, they can expect manufacturers (and consumers) to try to evade them. All bad laws do is increase contempt for the law.

Bring in your car so we can break it...

How do you get a car owner to do that? Bring it on in, and you’ll drop your MPG by nearly 12 miles per gallon for highway driving, shorten engine life, as well as creating much more maintenance requirements for your car to operate.

Yet a air pump that injects into the exhaust stream is a perfectly legal method of reducing measured tailpipe emissions.

Good thing VW set aside 7 billion, as I think they’re going to need every penny of it JUST to convince drivers.

Are you talking about downloading different software calibrations? There’s not anything to “adjust” otherwise these days.

I’m not sure that VW really did anything wrong here….

Except to defraud their customers by promising something that they did not deliver--a clean, high-performance diesel.

They lied to the EPA.

Yes the same EPA that dumped millions of gallons of toxic chemicals into the Animus River.
