Texas police will review decisions made when a Muslim teenager was taken away in handcuffs after high school staff mistook his homemade clock for a bomb, the Irving police chief said on Friday.
"One thing is clear to me, regardless of what we did, no matter what decision was made, there would've been people who agreed with it and people who disagreed with it," police Chief Larry Boyd told CNN.
The bespectacled ninth grader in a NASA T-shirt was led away in handcuffs from MacArthur High School on Monday after school officials discovered the clock.
By Wednesday, the Dallas-area student had become an Internet sensation and won several invitations, including one from President Barack Obama to visit the White House.

Yet the American student's pop-tart got him suspended BUT the Muslim student's "clock" got him an invitation to Obama's White House!
Here on FR there were threads in which the English teacher was basically called a moron. Not just the English teacher - anybody who thought the kid's clock looked like a bomb. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3337693/posts?q=1&;page=151
muslims automatically and rightly draw suspicion to themselves. This kid is muslim. Too bad for him.
I find it amazing that right after Obama tweets an invite to the white house to this kid they find an unattended coffee mug and put the white house on lockdown.
Would the TSA have let him on a plane with his “clock”?
Since he is a muslim, I would say yes.
I don’t know, but probably, even though she did exactly the right thing.
I understand that the cops asked him to describe what his “project” was, he could not tell them, he did not know or was lying. Then the cops cuffed him.
The kid probably really did not know what this was supposed to be, likely his Father did and is who made it with every intention to make it look very suspicious.
This was a trial run to see reactions and make us look the other way NEXT time.
Anyone catch the first report on this? It said his sister was in the classroom with video going when it rang and got teachers attention.
He probably saw one that his Father had made and copied the design.
I just posted the following on another, related, thread:
I work in a school district (adjacent to Ft. Hood, incidentally). We have to be trained in sexual harassment, spotting child abuse, dating violence, suicide prevention, blood-borne pathogens, using an AED device to save a life, as well as HIPPA and FERPA, and on and on. We have NOT (at least not yet) been trained in recognizing the differences between homemade clocks and homemade bombs. The differences are apparently very obvious to Odumbo and all of the Monday-morning-quarterbacking liberals out standing with Achmed, but this school did the absolute right thing. Bring something to school that looks remotely like a weapon; expect consequences.
If this future terrorist had tried slipping that bomb-look-alike through baggage screening at an airport, I trust the appropriate authorities reactions would be similar; but Ill bet the liberals wouldnt be flipping out about it. Okay to bring a fake bomb to a school, though.
Islamophobia? Damn straight. Look at the facts! These throwbacks bring it all on themselves. What if indeed it had been a bomb? All hell would have broke out blaming the teachers as to why they didn’t do something. It’s beyond nuts, it’s insanity.
Oh my gosh, I just read the thread that you linked above. Wow, so it’s not just the liberals who are Monday-morning-quarterbacking. So disappointed in several FReepers! Who knew we had so many engineering wizards right here amongst us?! They are brilliant enough to immediately realize that Ahmed’s mass and tangle of wires was just a clock. Dummies like myself, whose degrees are in speech-language pathology, not engineering, are an embarrassment to our school districts, I guess!!
Someone brave needs to make a clock exactly like Ahmed’s and leave it on a bench at an airport. See if that person gets a free ride to a university and thousands of dollars in gifts, as well as of course getting a visit to the White House. The treatment should be EXACTLY the same.
Thanks for taking the time to run up this summary. Your detective work gives a better insigh, and I appreciate it. The quality of what I could see doesn’t look like a 12-y. o. working with the tools to fit the display and board in that little box. I’m with you — hed to have a mature technician at least planning the work. And, why 120 VAC needed for this project??
(BTW, I know the definition of an expert, eh?)
A. Just walk away from anything that even looks remotely like a bomb - wouldn't want to insult anybody named Mohamed. It blows up resulting in multiple amputations and death. You feel guilty, but at least you won't be labeled a “racist”.
B. Call the cops. Worst case - the perp gets invited to the White House and you get called an “islomophobe”.
Yes, that was an amazing thread. I was disappointed that any freepers would blame the English teacher for not recognizing it wasn’t a bomb.
It’s funny - these guys think teachers should be expert outside their own area and recognize bombs.
It’s an amazing lack of common sense to argue that the kid was treated unfairly by the school and the clock was completely innocuous - but then, we’re talking about engineers. LOL
Meanwhile, everybody knows exactly what was going on here, and it is obnoxious.
Sorry for the late reply...I know there are those here that called her a moron...I just wonder to myself what they would have called her if she had ignored this and it actually was a danger... probably would call her a moron for ignoring it. In my view she was in a no win situation.

There was a reporter on this morning that said he was allowed to talk to the boy to ask him his side of the story. The reporter said he could hear the boy’s sister in the background coaching him on what to say.
Trial run! The real thing is coming.
I would sure be concerned if I had kids in a school where there were many mooselimbs. Just like in the Mid East, they will sacrifice one of their kids, for Allah, in a heartbeat.
