Where did this idea come from? Who started it? And is there a grain of truth there?
The answer lies in Democratic, not Republican politics, and in the bitter, exhausting spring of 2008. At the time, the Democratic presidential primary was slipping away from Hillary Clinton and some of her most passionate supporters grasped for something, anything that would deal a final reversal to Barack Obama.

Notice how Pollutico places the birther incident squarely on Trump's shoulders when it was an audience member who brought it up but they conveeeeeeniently absolve Hitlery of her role in giving birth to the birther movement by sloughing it off on her "passionate supporters".

The newly elected governor of Hawaii in 2010 said he would produce Obama’s Birth certificate, Well????? -
CNN, today, was saying that Obama was definitely born in Hawaii because he DID finally provide his birth certificate....
If you remember, that certificate was found to have a type of font that wasn’t around in 1961...
Not only that, it had his mother’s race as “Caucasian” and his father’s race as “African”...
There is no race “African”...In 1961, the birth certificate would’ve read race of father being “Negroid”...
I remember my utter shock....when I downloaded the origianl Portable Document Formula File...PDF......and opened it in Adobe Illustrator.
The first thing that caused my Jaw to DROP to my desk....was the fact that it had been created in Dozens of Layers.;...some of which only had two or three letters of numbers. A SURE SIGN of a FAKE.

I read that in the earlier response to my statement...I don’t know what the “layers” mean, but some really smart people do and they’ve said the document was an out and out fake...

His birth certificate is on line. It looks like the print on the certificate is in several distinctly different, as if it were carefully patched together.
