I'd bet that the counter person and his homies are getting some unwanted attention from the cops.
Nothing illegal, or violent. Just that the local police probably know exactly where they are, and what they're doing, right this second. If you're a dealer, having a prowl car parked next to you can't be good for business.
Never, Ever eat at Whataburger in LEWISVILLE, Texas.
The name alone would probably keep me out. It sounds like the place that Tammy robbed in the movie “Tammy”
Police Radio Dispatcher: “One Adam 12, One Adam 12, there's a gunman at the Whataburger. Very dangerous situation. Hostages are all staff. Do you copy?”
Police Car Response: “Yeah, so. They don't allow police officers there. Remember? What do you want us to do about it?”
Police Radio Dispatcher: “Nothing. I just thought that you'd think it was funny!”
Also, I wasn’t replying to raccoonradio.
Ironic that their relatives were probably angry that they know of people that didn’t get served in a burger joint 50 or 60 years ago.
indeed..as I said an FR search turns up posts like thus from July

Whataburger takes stand against Texas’ new open carry law
I'm trying to figure that statement out. Lewisville is 65% white and has a median income above the Texas average. Is there something about the town that we don't know?
...but I'm certain that it's just a rumor.
A very popular rumor in grade schools I bet.
I would go there and order something, and leave without paying. Let them then call the police.....
I just never gee-hawed with it and I am not a big fan of unbridled growth, 1 hour waits for tables at eateries, cookie cutter houses and apartments, and traffic.
I say this as a person living in the Austin area and it sucks too.
I am trying to not be too negative I just do not care for it and should have probably held my tongue.
Whataburger still serves fried pies. Gotta love it!
They should be fired, because technically this is discrimination.
“Some of these cops have attitude about getting freebies.”
But that’s not what happened here. they said they couldn’t serve them because they were wearing police uniforms.
what, are you an idiot?
And I remember in the 1990s when 7-11 had “Police” cups, where police could get free coffee refills using it.
They wanted the cops stopping there on break throughout the day and night, as free security.
That’s a GREAT name for a hamburger joint!
Jesse Jackson said when he worked a burger joint he’d spit on white people’s food.
No, I'm down at The Colony, Texas visiting my son and his family for a few days and since Lewisville is very close I didn't want to wander in the wrong part of the area. The small town I moved to in Kansas 33 years ago has now become a bedroom community for the Kansas City area. I liked it much better as a small town.
That’s the kind of thing I am talking about.
I worked in the police in the Air Force, worked FOR many departments as a contractor afterwards, and half my whole family is in LE.
This just LOOKED so bad, and the foreign national who ran the store looked so pathetic and helpless like he was used to having police loot his store.
I KNOW businesses like to have police presence, I worked at a restaurant when going to college that customarily cut police officers bill in half.
But to walk in and take stuff and walk out, with not so much as a “hello” just looked horrible.
The officer should have walked in, greeted someone or anyone and asked how his day was going, and generally DONE GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS. But to walk in, take something, and walk out just gave everyone in the store a bad feeling. I was not the only one noticing it, and the officer even looked back at everyone with attitude like “FU all” - it was bad.
To this day i regret not contacting his chain of command.
I would wait to hear from Whataburger- this may just be a bad employee
