WASHINGTON, D.C., August 14, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) - Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson denies that he personally handled the remains of aborted children during a medical research project – while defending the use of aborted babies' cells for such research.
The blog of an OB/GYN who supports abortion on demand revealed that Dr. Carson took part in a 1992 experiment that used cells taken "from two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation."
Thursday night, Dr. Carson denied that he was "in the laboratory actually doing the research, or retrieving fetal tissue."
"My only involvement in this study was supplying tumors that I had removed from my patients. Those tissue samples were compared to other tissue samples under a microscope," he said.
"The fetal tissue that was viewed in this study by others was not collected for this study," he added.
Fetal tissues used by researchers can "come from a variety of different places, ectopic pregnancies, spontaneous abortions," as well as elective abortions.
"But," he said, "just because they get the fetal tissue [by abortion], does it mean they should throw it out? Of course they don’t."
"That’s how science is advanced," he said.
Carson further told CNN during a stop in Manchester, New Hampshire, "To not use the tissue that is in a tissue bank, regardless of where it comes from, would be foolish. Why would anybody not do that?"
However, many bioethicists - and the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church - would disagree that it is morally permissible to participate in any study using cells obtained by elective abortion...even if the aborted remains were supplied by others.
The Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith wrote that medical professionals have the "duty to refuse to use such 'biological material' even when there is no close connection between the researcher and the actions of those who performed...the abortion."
"This duty springs from the necessity to remove oneself, within the area of one’s own research, from a gravely unjust legal situation and to affirm with clarity the value of human life." (Emphases in original.)
A declaration by the Pontifical Academy for Life asked, "Is it morally licit to use [embryonic stem] cells, and the differentiated cells obtained from them, which are supplied by other researchers or are commercially obtainable?"
"The answer is negative," it concluded.
Such an action would represent "a proximate material cooperation" in an immoral action.
The theologian Lucas Pollice wrote, "The use of stem cells for medical research that have been obtained from the deliberate and violent destruction of human life is also absolutely morally unacceptable."
Research related to the destruction of innocent human life, Pope Benedict XVI said during his pontificate, "is not truly at the service of humanity. In fact, this research advances through the suppression of human lives that are equal in dignity to the lives of other human individuals and to the lives of the researchers themselves."
Carson had previously upheld the use of RU-486, also condemned by pro-life and Roman Catholic ethicists. However, the retired neurosurgeon tied among likely Iowa caucus goers as the Republican most trusted on abortion, alongside Gov. Mike Huckabee.

I wonder how the “good” doctor would reply, if his mother, wife, daughter - or some other individual close to him - were murdered, and their remains taken (w/o permission) for use in experimental (Josep Mengele) “medicine.”
What Planned Parenthood has done, and continues to do, is ghoulish, unprincipled, immoral and unjust ... The fact that Carson rationalizes these actions, under pretense of acquiring some an imagined benefit, reveals the man for who he truly is. He can forget about the pro-life vote ... An Accomplice to murder is just as guilty as the one who committed the deed.

Accessory to another’s sin
We all have a responsibility for the sins of others. When we cooperate in them, we are an accessory to these sins, and this is possible in nine ways: By Counsel, By Command, By Consent, By Concealment, By Defense of Evil Done, By Partaking, By Provocation, By Praise, By Silence.
As practicing Catholics and Christians, we are not merely compelled to avoid sinning. We are compelled to avoid the occasion of sin, to avoid the temptation of sin and try to live by the example that Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, gave us.
It is not enough to avoid evil but we must also avoid the appearance of evil as well. It is not enough to merely avoid wrong-doing but to speak-out against any wrong- doing. We are all called to defend our faith and God’s laws.
If someone is aware of an evil committed, there are nine ways that we can end up being guilty by our participation, or omission, regarding another’s sin. Unfortunately, “Silence” in face of evil, is common, when we choose to be silent we allow sin to occur and in by doing so, we too sin.
Yeah that saddens me as well.
As pro-lifers I agree we should be screening candidates closely, but Cruz, Carson, Jindal, and even Huck have been rock solid on this issue.
Dr. Carson needs to step down....he will never win the presidency.k

There might be a black market where Carson can purchase a few antique lamp shades from the 40s.

So which tissue banks do Roman Catholic university medical schools and RC hospitals use? Do they have their own so they can keep a close eye on where and how the tissues are obtained? And what responsibility do they bear for employing doctors who may have been trained on tissue from other tissue banks or did research out of the church’s control- I ask because the last Catholic hospital I did work for had non-Catholic doctors on staff and by the looks of it they may not even be Christian or trained here?

Folks....all you had to do to see the failures of the Republican Establishment RINOs, was to watch the Senate activity, led by Senate leader, Mitch “Traitor” McConnell yesterday afternoon. Instead of immediately in invoking the “Nuclear Option” where a simple majority vote would rule...he handed Harry Reid another victory. The Republicans think they have the majority of votes in the Senate. They do.....but it is Harry Reid and his Democrat Senators that control the Senate!!! Both McConnell & Boehner are solidly in the pockets of Hary Reid, and, more importantly, POTUS, Barack Hussein (I love IRAN) Obama!!!
Just like it was foolish not to make ALL the Jews’ skins into lampshades? Sorry, Dr Carson - but your lack of any apparent respect for human life or dignity is, well, appealing. Human beings are not commodities to be exploited or “used” - and especially when you’re telling about killing them for that use (or just conveniently killing them for any reason and then disassembling their parts for whatever uses you may have for them).
And you can be sure the media never will, in order to use Carson to challenge Trump as the GOPe-designated "outsider" who doesn't stand a chance but serves their purpose to give Trump voters an alternative.
The inherent flaw is this is all designed to simply obtain the highest dollar value. It also seems easy enough to conclude delivering intact but dead babies increases risks to the women (just couldn’t call them moms). Was Mengele getting top dollar for his research. Just the simple fact that historically this has been done to POWs, undersirables, political enemies should show the depravity, done in the name of science. You can label it whatever makes you sleep at night doc.. But it’s murder and dissection for extreme profit.
I guess it would be okay to use the body tissues of dead Holocaust Jews, too.
