Family ‘flabbergasted’ that state charged mom who pushed her son in a swing for two days until he died
LA PLATA, Md. — The facts are hard to fathom: a mother alone with her 3-year-old son in a playground for two days straight, pushing him in a swing until he died of dehydration and low body temperature; pushing him even after he died until finally sheriff’s deputies came to investigate.
To Vontasha Simms, whose daughter Romechia Simms is now charged with manslaughter, the facts are a clear indication that Romechia Simms was suffering from mental illness so severe that a criminal prosecution is misplaced.
Vontasha Simms said she was “totally flabbergasted” by prosecutors’ announcement Monday that they were charging her 24-year-old daughter with child abuse, manslaughter and child neglect.

It looks like the family expects the State to not treat it as a criminal matter precisely because she is nuts/mentally ill. Which, without knowing more about the case, seems like a good point...
Also, maybe I'm a bit too skeptical, but I can't help but wonder if part of the reason they're going after her criminally is to make up for the govt's own incompetence here. She was out there with the kid for TWO DAYS. In a public place. Less than a mile from the police station. And no one wondered why she was out there overnight, pushing a swing?
Vontasha and Romechia. I’m thinking they just clip two- or three-letter segments out of magazines, put them in a jar, shake the jar, and pull out random segments to create names. This duo could have very well been named Vonchia and Rometasha. Right?

America more and more is becoming populated by what I feel are feral human beings, The other side of the coin is that LEA's actively comb medical records that are submitted on child injuries. I fear eventually we will get to the point that parents will be charged with criminal neglect if their little Johnny gets a skinned knee from falling of his bicycle.
Or Chavonia and Metarasha.
At what point SHOULD we draw the line? When one human being kills/murders another human being, howmdoesnthat perps mentality play in to it? For example, I’ve never understood the “not guilty by mental defect” garbage. If the evidence proves you pulled the trigger/swung the bat/ran them over/strangled them- WHATEVER” then how in the world could any verdict or charge be “not guilty”? YOU DID IT! Now, want to discuss how insanity/mental illness plays in to the punishment and/or efforts at rehabilitation, ok-’we can at least discuss that.
But let’s also discuss that “mental defect”: to take another’s life save for any reason beyond protecting life, limb, or property is wrong. How does the perp being somehow “disturbed” make the victim any less dead, or the victim’s fa,ily and friends any less grieved?
And who gets to determine if the perp is stil a threat to others? Seems that liability should be placed squarely on the shoulders of those making such determinations... A judge rules someone doesn’t have to serve time because of their “mental defect, and that monster then further victimizes others-—

She was under a lot of stress.
I understand having little kids is stressful. When our kids were little, I would come home from work and my wife would just about toss them into my arms to take the dog for what we called, “a sanity walk.”
Oh wait. No hubby. No help. People noticed her pushing that kid at “odd hours” and no one bothered to do anything.
What is wrong with this world?

Story has it my older adopted brother survived three days (1959 I think he was two years old)being rocked in a rocking chair on the front porch by his temporary foster Mom.
Mental illness is a very sad especially when no one notices or cares when they see it in people they should care about.
so....people walked through that park for 3 days and never noticed nor said anything?
Maybe they couldn't find the father, I mean would you admit sleeping with that! may the Lord hold this poor child's soul close!
