When it comes to garbage, the city of Seattle has launched a waste war.
Nine full-time solid waste inspectors have been hired as part of a controversial program to check city trash to make sure people are recycling. Additionally, contracted waste haulers have been effectively deputized as trash police, given the authority to tag bins when people fail to recycle and compost enough.
The program is now the subject of a lawsuit, as residents fume over what some call an intrusive government program.
“I understand people have noble goals,” said Keli Carender, who got tagged two weeks in a row, an offense that soon could bring a fine. “But at some point we have to say, you can’t violate my rights to achieve this noble goal.”
Carender is among 14,000 residential and commercial customers this year to get tagged. The sticker warns them that more than 10 percent of their trash content should have been recycled or put into compost bins.

Leftists are always the first to be surprised when the “purification” begins.
That appears to be absurd, but it is exactly where many envirowhackos would take the country.
They are always surprised when they find out they are first on the roundup lists. I Always tell my liberal friends that once true solcism succeeds they will keep me (military equipment designer/engineer) but the sociologist/homo/artistic bull shitters get removed as dead wood. They keep those with value and those they can rule. Professional whiners disappear.

What about when people drop their waste in your dumpster in the dark of night?
Coming from NJ (with its notoriously high taxes), I couldn’t imagine people accepting this. It would just be de-funded, as the money was steered towards public school teachers instead (and our taxes can’t increase more than 2%, so they’d be out of luck).
At this point we can’t even fix our streets because we’re paying so much to the people who used to fix them twenty years ago (until they retired).
Absurd, less than 5 years ago! The commercial aired, actually aired, during the Super Bowl.

I wonder if they have quotas like cops, or get bonuses for writing garbage tickets. There has to be an incentive program for them or they wouldn’t bother to inspect the cans. Now if they get 10% of the fine or something, they would leap to scrutinize and ticket homeowners.
You could make life hard on people you hate. Just pollute their cans every week. But don’t get shot.
