Dame Helen Mirren is not shy to speak her mind.

The Oscar-winning actress has taken aim at men who sling their arm over their girlfriend’s shoulders because it looks like ‘ownership’.

In an interview with the Mail On Sunday’s You Magazine, Dame Helen compared women to ‘toddlers in this modern world’ in the sense they were were still ‘trying to find their position in the age of sexual liberation, birth control, education and financial independence.’

With men who really love, putting their arm around their women means protectiveness, respect, and committment. And their women respond by laying their head on his shoulder. Aw.☺

The observation is entirely correct - some of these young ladies LIKE being “owned”, and submit to it readily.

An oddity of psychological development of the female mind, and it goes far to understand how any female will stay in even a very abusive or demeaning situation. We see it played out over and over with females who stay even when escape is possible, “for the children”, they say. It is fear of being able to launch into self-reliance, a trait these females may never have learned, or have had beaten out of them by a father figure sometime in their early lives. Of course, having a mother who enabled this kind of abusive behavior to be applied to the young female child is a major factor as well.

This is seen in a much wider application in that peculiar ideology known as “Islam”, in which females are systematically subjugated and condemned to a sort of sub-human existence. And this may be one of the greatest of condemnations that be applied to Muslims the world over - they do not respect their females, or trust them to make any kind of decision.

Liberal guide to interpersonal relations:
Putting your arm around a woman is ownership.
Holding hands is putting them on a leash.
Kissing is molestation.
Sex is rape.

I actually thinks it’s nice, it shows caring and protectiveness.

Then again I’m normal, so I would think that.

I grew up in the 50’s and never put my arm around my girl’s shoulder. Instead a would slip it into the back pocket of her jeans ( Dungaree’s).

It was cool. Got to cop a feel and keep my hand warm at the same time.

Well, I'll concede that the couple pictured don't appear to be having a 'spiritual' moment, but otherwise, this gets a big eyeroll from me...

I sit side by side with my wife at our weekly Weight Watchers meeting, and at some point nearly always put my arm around her - not to keep me from dozing off and falling forward, or to signify my 'ownership', but as a sign of affection and support. I think it also endears us to the other women in our meeting, who don't appear to think I'm a horrible misogynist...

Why does everything have to have some deep meaning? As John Lennon was reputed to have said: 'Sometimes a song is just a song.'

Has Mirren ever been loved? Has she ever loved someone back?

Being a stupid male, I ran Ms. Mirrens opinion past my wife of 52 years. I asked her if SHE thinks it looks like the man thinks he OWNS a woman if he puts his arm around her shoulder.

She replied, “I think it looks like she’s being loved.”

She was good friends with my sister in law, they went to the same high school. I knew she was gay back in the early 60’s before it became fashionable to make public your perversions.

Yes. She would be liberated and you would together be a modern couple if she wore a niqab and walked 3 steps behind you.
