A solution to regulate gun sales (Leftist ideas on how the gun buying process should work)
http://www.newstimes.com ^

Regarding the latest articles in The News-Times on gun sales in Connecticut, I would like to offer a solution — a solution which will slow down the process and create jobs and provide additional funds for the police departments. The process is similar to buying a car.

In order for a first-time buyer to purchase a hand gun or rifle there would be either a $500 to $1,000 fee or a 60-to-90-day waiting period.

Whether it’s a big box retailer or independent gun dealer, an application would need to be filled out on who the owner of the gun would be. A minimum of two, and possibly three, forms of identification would have to be provided. The fee and application would go directly the Police Department. The fee would pay for police personal trained on new gun sales. A complete background, and if warranted, even a credit check would be mandatory.

Once more we see no ideas on how to address criminals. Only to make criminals out of the law-abiding.

They don’t get the “shall not be infringed” thing, do they?

I think a holes who make such ideas should use the same process to be allowed to breath with a mandatory 30 day waiting period.

There is never a solution to criminals getting and using guns. Only making it harder and more expensive for the law abiding to get a gun.

There's a 60 day waiting period for first time car buyers in CT?

I wonder if liberals would like guns if the best method of performing abortions was by shooting the babies

Let’s apply comparable rules for publishing editorials online or in a newspaper. People who exercise their first amendment rights cshoulkd have to post a $1000 bond in case there is anything libelous or untrue in the article. Or they could choose to submit the editorial to government review for 60-90 days. Would be writers would have to receive government training in acceptable writing both in term of style and subject.

Maybe there should be a review board and waiting period and tax before leftists are allowed to write such nonsense.

I know this post is about purchasing, but

An individual with a concealed carry permit has already spent a bunch of money, had a federal records colonoscopy, training and probably waited 90 days or more for the permit.

So that plan should include, show your permit pay the man and take your firearm home.

Or is the plan more than insuring a qualified buyer ? /rhetorical

The end justifies the means. Of course they would like guns then.

Don’t give them any ideas..

I am so glad that I moved out of CT years ago. It is a liberal nuthouse.

The writer says the Second Amendment is outdated. Free speech is outdated?

Why not regulate that as well? You can make a good argument for making sure people don’t say anything stupid.

Its a proposal that won’t pass constitutional muster. For me, the government has no business asking whether I want to own a gun, what I intend to use it for and whether I could keep it.

This proposal reeks of fascism with bureaucrats deciding if you get to keep your RKBA. A freedom that’s a privilege in reality is no freedom at all.

Can someone explain to me how a $500 - $1,000 fee or a 60 to 90 day waiting period is in any way “similar to buying a car”?

Sort of like the gun buy process in Nelson Mandela’s South Africa. Hey what’s the murder rate there?

How about this better idea...

You commit a crime that violates the rights of others, and you are shot
