COBB, Calif. (KCRA) —A fast-moving wildfire burning in Lake County exploded to 50,000 acres and has destroyed hundreds of homes, Cal Fire officials said.

Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant said more than 100 homes were destroyed by a wildfire that exploded in size within hours. That number was updated into the hundreds Sunday afternoon.

Berlant said wind gusts that reached up to 30 mph sent embers raining down on homes.

"Which is ‘all’ the more reason for sensible land management. In a drought, common sense says you need to be even more vigilant clearing sources of fire/dead underbrush."

I WHOLLY AGREE!

Cutting manzanita is a crime. They'll put you in jail for it...and scrub pine.

It doesn’t balance out. If it did every team would play 500 ball, everyone would bat 500, for every birth there would be a death, for every house built one would fall.

I could go on for ever. What is funny to me is that we somehow should be privy to God’s design. Even if we were somehow privy to such information, would we really understand it? We can only comprehend about 15% of this earth and about 10% of the universe, or so they say; I seriously doubt if we knew His plan it would help us or be at all meaningful to us.

People refuse to comprehend that we are in a fallen state, that we are born into sin and live in sin. We really are not deserving of anything. It is amazing to me that anything good ever happens that He is as generous as he is.

Just hear on the live feed a crew saying they were low on firing devices. Dispatch says, “Yeah. Well. We are low on everything. You just have to make do.”

0% Contained and the winds are picking up.

For those who are not familiar with California, if you look at a map: Draw a rectangle from Yreka down to Willows. Then over to Py Reyes and up to Crescent City. Then back to Yreka.

300 miles long and a hundred miles wide and 250,000 people filling the all of it.

Nothing but mixed forest and Mediterranean climate. Farms, ranches, logging and fishing. Most of the cash comes from tourists and dope.

We have thress large, out of control fires in Norcal at the same time.

Valley, Butte and Rough (yes, we name them like Hurricanes).

If you go to the above like there are 77 pics of the destruction. It looks like each was hit by a nuclear weapon.

And sometimes it’s just a forest fire started by lighting or a spark.

I haven’t heard anything about it. The priority yesterday was saving human lives. The fire moved so fast that people literally only had minutes to pack valuables and leave. The father of one of our friends almost didn’t make it. Under the circumstances many people are fortunate to still be alive....

No, what I reject is your impugning of an entire population. Keep the sanctimony to yourself. Maine isn’t exactly a paragon of conservatism.

Thank you for bringing compassion, tolerance and civility back to the thread. I’ve lived in NorCal years ago. The area is what I’d describe as “God’s country” and I am not religious. The most beautiful, geographically diverse area on earth. As the great scientist/forester Dr. Bill Wattenburg described on his long running KGO radio show, these overfueled burns prevent forest regrowth for at least a century or longer. The mismanagement of our forests has been criminal. Enough said, too heartbreaking for people, the wild animals burned alive, nature.
