Socialist Corbyn wins UK Labour leadership in landslide

adical leftwinger Jeremy Corbyn on Saturday won the crown of Britain's main opposition Labour party in a landslide victory, becoming the nation's most left-wing political leader for over 30 years.

The 66-year-old socialist, whose policies have been compared to those of Greece's Syriza and Spain's Podemos, was named leader after clinching 59.5 percent of the 422,664 votes cast by Labour party members and supporters.

The newly-elected leader condemned "grotesque levels of inequality" and "an unfair welfare system" in his victory speech to party members in central London.

The veteran campaigner also called for Britain's Conservative government to show more "compassion" in dealing with the Syrian refugee crisis and said he would attend a demonstration planned in London later on Saturday.

He said Labour was "united and absolutely determined in our quest for a decent and better society that is possible for all".

North Islington MP Corbyn has electrified Labour's leadership race, which was triggered by the resignation of Ed Miliband after he lost May's general election to David Cameron's right-wing pro-austerity Conservatives.

And we in America have a socialist/communist party as well the democrats, here they wield far more power than the republican majority party and our constitutional free republic is being laid waste by what now is the Progressive Liberal Democrat/Rino Communist Uni-Party.

Britain is disintegrating under political correctness brought on by the socialist/communists, we can criticize the Brits or we can see what is happening there to get a clue, they are like our mirror, they are falling fast and we are not that far behind.

He will never be PM. Labour grassroots supporters may love him but the country at large view him as a looney left nutter.

Bernie is (almost) a moderate compared to this creep.

Even the BBC admits Corbyn is the most radical (and inexperienced, his entire 32 year career has been spent as a backbencher) leader Labour has ever had. One of their shadow ministers has already resigned over his election.

This may be good for the moribund Lib Dems. Moderate leftists could fall back into their arms.

It’s wonderful news for the Tories and UKIP.

They have been on the way out for a long time. The liberals here have been dragging us along behind them. Ugh!

Never say never. In a sane world, he would never be PM. This is no longer a sane world.

It may seem wonderful now. But the masses can move left in a hurry. It is NEVER good for a crazy radical to gain any sort of control.

I remember GOP pundits here gloating over the liberals electing Pelosi as their House leader. They figured she was so radical that it would blight their party for a long time. HA! We have been sprinting left ever since. I am not saying that was necessarily the beginning of the sprint. Maybe it was just a sign. I am saying that rejoicing over their future defeat is mere wishful thinking. There needs to be a major effort to stop this trend. TAKE IT VERY VERY SERIOUSLY.

The flaw in that thinking on Pelosi is few people really care who the Congressional leaders are, they don’t even know who they are. Even still, while she did rise to Speaker because the GOP became unpopular at the end of Bush’s Presidency, she became an albatross around the necks of democrats in GOP-leaning districts, almost of all whom have been defeated since then. Don’t forget, the democrats are at an 85 year low point in the House. And really since the groupthink in the democrat party is so strong, there is hardly any ideological difference between any of their top people. Steny Hoyer would be just as bad as Pelsoi.

This guy Corybn appears to me to be a non-viable candidate for Prime Minister, and that’s great news. Imagine if Barbara Lee was nominated by the democrats for President, it would mean a Republican landslide. It’s always best that opposition picks the worst candidates possible, to minimize the chance of them winning.

I see a 5% chance of a lunatic like Corybn gaining power as much better than a 45% chance of more mainstream Labour scumbag (who would do the majority of the nasty things Corybn would do) gaining power. Risk/reward.

Even if he were to win, his polices would almost guarantee failure and a reversal in the next election.

Can you try to explain how this came about?

Who voted for him? Was it within the liberal Labor parliament members who selected him? If so, with the landslide win, didn’t they see this as future suicide or are they trying to send a message to someone in the leadership of the Labor party?

In the past they had an electoral college sort of deal, giving extra weight to MPs and major unions.

But now they’ve changed it, all party members, “registered supporters” and “affiliated supporters” (union members) get 1 vote. Instant runoff ballot. There were 4 candidates. About 420K people voted. Corbyn won 59% against the other 3.

The breakdown by the 3 different categories of voters was interesting. “Party Members” gave him just under 50. “Registered Supporters” over 80%!. And “Affiliated Supporters” gave him 58%.

35 MPs are needed to nominate candidates, this guy got only 36, seems to me he’d have had no chance if MPs made the selection alone. This creates a weird situation with the MPs having a leader they don’t want. He was the choice of average Labour voters, who clearly want communism.
