Just ahead of the fourteenth anniversary of al Qaeda's 9/11 attacks on the U.S., the leader of the terrorist group took aim in an angry speech at a mortal enemy -- but not American crusaders this time. Rather, the object of his tirade was the leader of ISIS in a declaration of war that will irreconcilably divide the two terror groups in a way the U.S. may be able to exploit, experts say.
Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian doctor who replaced Osama bin Laden as the head of al Qaeda four years ago, in a new audio message accused ISIS top leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of sedition and insisted the Iraqi terrorist recluse was not the leader of all Muslims and militant jihad as caliph of the Islamic State, as al-Baghdadi had claimed 14 months ago in a Mosul mosque.
Its pretty interesting, said former National Counterterrorism Center Director Matthew Olsen. Zawahiri until now has not been willing to openly condemn Baghdadi and ISIS. It highlights how deep the division is between al Qaeda leadership and ISIS. It suggests that the differences are irreconcilable.

What 'experts'? Where? The same ones that said support Libyan freedom rebels to topple the Sergeant? The same ones in Egypt? The same ones that say support the freedom rebels in Syria?
"Exploit" to me sounds suspiciously like supporting one or the other somehow - money, weapons, air strikes, etc. Nothing good will come of it.
They could exploit difference with sophisticated information operations.
Yep...sophisticated information campaigns like internet videos I guess.
You’re right. In the Middle East there are only bad guys and worse guys.
The only ‘exploit’ we should be doing at all is wasting them both if we catch them together or separately. Frankly, we are not good at all in all this foreign intrigue, diplomacy or anything of the sort.
Why hasn't he been fragged by a drone yet?
One reason. We don’t know his exact location. When we do, he’ll be killed or captured.
The only exploiting I can think of now is have Obama have one of his “teachable” moments between the two groups in a desert somewhere.
Put our $ickless leader in between the two groups and let him drop the flag, then let them kill the crap out of each other.
We could have Boehner and McConnell standing beside him to show bipartisanship.
My first thought that it is another lie to help us arm a United AQ and ISIS. Nothing like using ones enemies to destroy the US
Whatever, Kerry and Obama will screw things up.
Ok then, al Qaeda will be killing ISIS, whom will be killing the Syrian moderate rebels whom will be killing Assads Gov. Soldiers. I believe that is called a circular firing squad requiring vast sums of popcorn.
Gee, maybe the CIA can get money and weapons on the ground to Al Qaeda ! And also continue making sure ISIS is protected by our coalition strikes that are pretending to fight them
What an opportunity for adventure!
D. Oh.
Because he’s an asset
Yes, I think it would be nice if they were to engage on the battlefield and then "mysteriously" explode themselves.
Know what I mean? (wink wink)
All this President wants to do is destabilize any foreign muslim government and turn it over the Islamic terrorists. We shouldn’t be messing with any of this.
If you could just post that on every thread from now till January 2017, you would be right every time.
Well, he can’t be that mad. I didn’t see where he says “ I KEEL YOU!”
Is Ali Baba still a CIA asset or did he double cross us like the Tsarnaev brothers?
That was my first thought also. And the US is stupid enough to lay off whichever group appears more "moderate".
