Plenty of lumber up there in Alaska to build cabins for the “settlers” and plenty of game to feed “the hungry, huddled masses,” words, I’m afraid, which will come back to bite us on the arse.

Not ‘to build for’ ... for THEM, as true homesteaders, to build FOR THEMSELVES.
Sure, there is abundant game. But all these darn A-rabs ain’t never seen, nor got close up and personal with brown and grizzly bears, have they?
Nor, have they really seen what an Alaskan winter is all about.
Put them up there, with survival manuals, and the tools to build a home, but no weapons, one month of MREs only, and place them there in late September, as a start. come back in spring, to see who is still there, ala Donner.
