Surging Ben Carson Knocks Trump Immigration Plan
NBC News ^ | 9/8/15 | ANDREW RAFFERTY and ALEX STAMBAUGH

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson knocked rival Donald Trump's immigration plan on Tuesday, saying that deporting the country's undocumented immigrants "sounds really cool" but would be far too costly and complicated.

"It sounds really cool, you know, 'Let's just round them all up and send them back,'" Carson said. "People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system, the costs - forget about it. Plus, where you gonna send them? It's just a double whammy."

Carson has been gaining on Trump, the GOP frontrunner, in recent polls. An NBC/Marist poll released Sunday found Carson has jumped to second place in Iowa among Republican voters, seven points behind the real estate mogul.

Trump's immigration plan calls for deporting the estimated 11 million undocumented workers currently in the U.S., a proposal that opponents say would cost billions and would be nearly impossible to execute. Carson said that he instead favors a plan that would allow undocumented workers the chance to become guest workers.

Carson is a token candidate, on the main stage for his race and nothing more.

Would a white physician, who has never been elected to anything, and who has never run anything larger than a hospital department, be on on stage with governors and senators?

Carson should thank everyone for his 15 minutes, and then run in a Democrat congressional primary on his platform of open borders, and endless mass immigration from the third world.

Disappointing. It’ll be interesting to see whether this will end his surge. I think it will.

I’m a Cruz supporter, but I did like Ben Carson, too. However, now that Carson has revealed his squishiness on THIS particular HUGE issue, I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t have a negative impact on his poll numbers.

[Trump is an] egomaniacal, classless, thin-skinned blowhard...

So true. His recent shtick about Fiorini's appearance was just pathetic. What a great way to play right into the Dem's "war on women" narrative.

That said, I'm still supporting him, solely because of the border wall thing. Hoping, however, that another candidate convincingly pledges to build a wall (and promises to "secure the border" don't cut it), so I can shed Trump. But until then ...

There are those who are put off by Trump and who have been hollering from the rooftops for a good while.

Trump is far from perfect. An attack on him from the right is worth listening to. Carson is a likable and attractive candidate, well-spoken. His best path is to stay to Trump's right on issues where he is weak.

If you are going to attack him on immigration, his pet issue, then do it from the right.

But Carson is in effect saying that he will accept the status quo on immigration. That is not going to do him any favors with any potential supporters. If we want the status quo, we already have that.

Ben would make a good Surgeon General in the Trump administration.

I doubt we could ever do mass deportations, but just cutting off the supply cold, ASAP, would be a great start.

Trump has eluded to the waste in our government. Maybe Dr. Carson should consider President Trump cutting much of it thus freeing up billions that can then be used to round up and exile the 20 to 30 million illegal immigrants

What the heck is with most of our candidates this year? why are they all so quick to destroy themselves?

The same thing happens each election. FReepers are in love with this one for a month till he stumbles and then instantly fall in love with the next one till he says something.

And on and on and on. It's too early for anyone to be certain of any of the candidates. Well, except for Bush, of course.

A couple of things.

First, I assume they’re following orders because heretofore neither one of them said things like this about DT until now (to my knowledge). And it just happens to coincide with the timing of when the Republican Party stated that they would take the gloves off with the intent to take him down.

That is not an unreasonable assumption. It may be incorrect, but not unreasonable under the circumstances.

Second, why else would the RNC/GOPe go against someone as popular with the electorate if they wanted their own anointed one in there?

I’m not referring to the individual, rank-and-file voter, many of who have serious misgivings about Trump, and they have that right to express it when and where they want.

I’m referring to the Establishment and their henchmen and henchwomen, out to destroy for the sake of destroying.

Cutting off all the aid given to illegals by this so-called “government” we have would cause mass self deportation...

It only costs $258.50 for a bus ticket to Mexico City, MX.

On the other hand if you compare it apples to apples, the cost of welfare for one person paid month after month, year after year is at least 10 times that!

Carson isn’t a token candidate, he came onto the stage because he had the guts to speak the truth about Obama’s politics while Obama was seated 2 seats away. Here’s the speech if you haven’t heard it, but it is what thrust him to the fore.

Who is this Carson? I have it on good authority from countless Trump followers that if you don’t support Trump you’re a Bushbot RINO establishment lackey. Did a 3rd candidate very recently enter the race?

Add cutting off jobs for illegals and that would push most of them back across the border or starve. Some would commit crimes to survive, arrest and put on the next bus on the other side of the new wall Trump will build.

YOU DON`T DEPORT THEM!

You make the criminal and economic penalties and fines from EMPLOYING them a crushing and devastating deterrent.

You do this by turning it into a cash cow with tax free rewards taken from those financially eviscerating fines.

I`d fine 50% of the net worth of a company or person found to be employing an illegal and give a major portion of those proceeds, up to half, to those that turn in those particular illegals and their employers. No one will dare to hire them.

Add to that similar fines and/or criminal penalties for hiding, aiding, as well as giving taxpayer largess to illegals and they`ll SELF DEPORT!

The remaining illegals are career criminals who can be dealt with thru the criminal justice system before MANDATORY deportation.

E-verify and let things take its natural course. Maybe painfully slow for some and then not fast enough for others but it will work and is “fair”. Of course for it to work our laws need to be enforced.

A point is often made about visitors over staying their visas...my understanding this happens a LOT. I know someone that happened too and he regrets it to this day...from outside the USA.

He was ready to leave and “friends” told him...” Hey, its ok to stay a few more days”. WRONG LOL. No more USA Visas

He isnt a bad guy and I see him often when I visit Colombia.

We didn’t import them...shouldn’t cost too much or be too hard to deport them.

TURN OFF THE MAGNET! No more welfare, schools or healthcare. They’ll leave.
