America's eerie parallels to downfall of Rome
WND ^ | September 4, 2015 | Bill Federer

The fall of Rome was a culmination of several external and internal factors.

Great Wall of China
By 220 A.D., the Later Eastern Han Dynasty had extended sections of the Great Wall of China along its Mongolian border. This resulted in the Northern Huns attacking west instead of east. This caused a domino effect of tribes migrating west across Central Asia, and overrunning the Western Roman Empire.

Open borders
Illegal immigrants poured across the Roman borders: Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Franks, Anglos, Saxons, Alemanni, Thuringians, Rugians, Jutes, Picts, Burgundians, Lombards, Alans, Vandals as well as African Berbers and Arab raiders.

Will and Ariel Durant wrote in “The Story of Civilization” (Vol. 3 – Caesar and Christ, Simon & Schuster, 1944, p. 366): “If Rome had not engulfed so many men of alien blood in so brief a time, if she had passed all these newcomers through her schools instead of her slums, if she had treated them as men with a hundred potential excellences, if she had occasionally closed her gates to let assimilation catch up with infiltration, she might have gained new racial and literary vitality from the infusion, and might have remained a Roman Rome, the voice and citadel of the West.”

Loss of common language
At first immigrants assimilated and learned the Latin language. They worked as servants, with many rising to leadership. But then they came so fast they did not learn Latin, but instead created a mix of Latin with their own Germanic, Frankish and Anglo tribal tongues. The unity of the Roman Empire began to dissolve.

The welfare state
“Bread and the Circus!” Starting in 123 B.C., the immensely powerful Roman politician Gaius Gracchus began appeasing citizens with welfare, a monthly handout of a free dole (handout) of grain.

Agree with you 100%!!! I voted for McCann & Romney. I will never make that kind of foolish mistake again!!! If they are Republican establishment RINOS...I ain’t voting for them. and....IMHO, both Mitch McConnell & John boehner should be immediately removed from their leadership posts. They are both “Obama Lites”!!!

The romans also continually debased their currency rather than cut back on government spending...

Will Durant also pointed out that Christianity spread via women, because Christianity protected those most hurt by the decline of Rome’s morals and safety - that is, women and children.

Don’t forget about massive debt and money printing. Rome’s great economic and political troubles from 235 onward were the result of massive debt and money printing incurred by the Severan Emperors of the late 2nd and first part of 3rd century.

Debt, money printing and currency devaluation to pay for big government, immigrants, bread and circuses and wars? Imagine that?

It is far better to compare today’s America with the almost fall of the eastern Roman Empire, because of the Nika Riots.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nika_riots

In short, the violent radicals wanted to overthrow the Emperor and the Empress, and while he was a weak man, his wife was made of sterner stuff. The end result was about 30,000 radicals were killed, which just by itself helped insure that their Empire lived another 200 years, before others needed to intervene to protect it.

[Imagine that?]

Sounds like the 0 and his regime have been successful in adopting the Roman Empire’s failure, to me.

Loss of common language. Hate to be a stickler here but Roman Empire was bilingual: Latin in the West and Greek in the East. Now, the military was generally Latin speaking which helped maintain cohesion. When Rome conquered the East, they basically conquered the Hellenic kingdoms that had formed out of Alexander’s empire.

You’re a little late Don. Garner Ted Armstrong had this all covered 46 years ago. Lousy messenger but the message was spot on: http://www.hwalibrary.com/cgi-bin/download/viewitem.cgi?PageNo=#Page=45

Maybe if the sons of Roman leaders were the ones fighting the wars, they’d have been less likely to send them hither & yon? Alas, like the Romney and Sununu families, they were quite happy to let others fight those wars.
