FRANKFORT, Ky. (WBKO) -- Gov. Steve Beshears Statement on Marriage Licenses in Rowan County:
Judge Bunnings decision today speaks for itself. The future of the Rowan County Clerk continues to be a matter between her and the courts. Deputy clerks have said they will commence issuing marriage licensesbeginning tomorrow. It appears that the citizens of Rowan County will now have access to all the services from the clerks office to which they are entitled.
Again, the legislature has placed the authority to issue marriage licenses squarely on county clerks by statute, and I have no legal authority to relieve them of their statutory duty by executive order.
The General Assembly will convene in just four months and can make any statutory changes it deems necessary at that time. I see no need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayers money calling a special session of the General Assembly when 117 of 120 county clerks are doing their jobs. Gov. Steve Beshear

Effing coward.
I would have had Sheriff’s deputies on-site to take the judge into custody for false imprisonment.

Disgusting. The governor is responsible for executing the laws of the state. The law says that the Clerk has the authority. The legislature has not created a gay marriage statute. So a federal court has stepped in and forced an official to give up her authority to enforce a non-law that was created by other judges.
Can’t he commute her sentence?
Is this Mitch McConnels replacement?
All tuned up and ready to step right in
Never mind. He’s a dim.
Is it true these queers are actually from Ohio?
More like (D-Immoral).
I wonder how he would respond to the question “What’s the difference between a Democrat and a socialist?”
What his statement really means is that he hopes this blows over by the time of the next legislative session.
Widespread civil disobedience is long overdue. There are so many areas of the law today where people should just cross their arms and say, “I don’t care — I ain’t doing that.”
Should issue a pardon immediately
It’s not a sentence. She is being held in contempt of court and is totally subject to the discretion of the judge. A state governor has no jurisdiction in a federal case.
has she been sentenced yet
And he won’t be in office then.
It’s Federal court. She is currently in prison for not issuing the licenses.
Now they supposedly are okay with having the deputy clerks sign the licenses and not her, but for some reason weren’t okay with just having it done with another county clerk willing to do so...that makes no sense.
They could always go to another county too, lol
“A state governor has no jurisdiction in a federal case.”
Actually the problem here is that the federal government has no jurisdiction in this matter of social policy which clearly is the domain of individual states.
I suppose it hardly matters if the states are going to fall all over themselves surrendering every last bit of their sovereignty to their all-knowing, all-powerful federal overlords.
It’s not about baking cakes.
It’s not about marriage licenses.
Finding someone — anyone — to bake the cake is no solution.
Finding someone — anyone — to sign the licenses is no solution.
The exercise which is being followed is simple: Find the observant Christians and crush them.
Call all the bakeries.
Call all the county clerk’s offices.
Make as many phone calls as you need to, until you find a Christian.
And then — destroy that Christian.
