Unless you really want to spend a lot of frustrating time tuning the carbs and getting them synched, plus tracking down ethanol resistant rebuild kits and lots of frustrating cleaning, I suggest you just send the entire rack of carbs off to Old School Carbs. http://www.oldschoolcarbs.com/

My friends and I have been using Jack at OSC for years, before Jay Leno started using him. For the price (which is about double what original parts cost), what you get back is your carbs - but they literally look like they’re factory new. They’re also already balanced on a flow bench and set to factory base settings when you get them back - so literally all you have to do is install them and go. The parts he uses are ethanol resistant as well. You basically get back a set of carbs that are as close to new as it is possible for a used set to be, with things like shaft seals and everything else replaced.

This guy is the go-to guy for restoring carbs, especially some of the super-complex ones like the ones off the CBX, the GL series, the Honda V4s, etc., etc. No connection other than a very satisfied customer.

Thank you for that link!

There is a very good chance mine will be going there. I have no problem paying for quality labor even though my bank book may not like it but that is the way of the world.

Since mine has only 5800 or so on the clock, I tossed the idea of getting already rebuilt ones early on since there is so little wear and tear.

Finding anyone who will tackle vintage in my part of the world isn’t easy. Mechanically it appears very sound. A few people who know a lot more than me definitely approve of it. I asked some opinions on it before buying it. I didn’t charge in blind.

It had been in storage for years and was prepped by the previous owner. The guy was murdered (perps caught) a while back. The brother finally decided to part with it. I picked it up for 1100. He was honest about everything good and bad.

Most of what little bad I’ve fixed. It needed run time more than anything. A fresh battery, oil/filter, plugs, and air filter up front. Front brakes were out but those are back.

The front brake fix occurred unexpectedly. I rolled it into the daylight for the plugs, air filter, and replacement solenoid that died later after I bought it. It fired up and sounded a lot better than the first few times.

Anyway a lady neighbor with her dogs was passing by and we talked for a minute. Nice person and nice dogs. She mentioned some guy pal or whatever was visiting and was a mechanical guru esp on bikes and if he would like to come over. Sure, someone knowledgeable to talk to is always welcome.

He came over, nice guy and retired. He had a couple like mine. I told him the story on it and that brakes were going to be next big job. In what little I had looked into the subject from a book and YT, I figured I had a problem in the caliper.

It would not take a bleed at all. He looked at, had me pump the handle, popped a cover off the caliper, and cylinder. He caught something I didn’t and probably wouldn’t until later. One of the two pin holes in the master cylinder were blocked. A bread tie wire and a few minutes later I had brakes. Good and solid. Disc is a little beat up.

He didn’t want anything but I wanted to do something, I can’t take something for nothing, esp. good labor. The neighbor said he loved Dr. Pepper. I picked up a couple of 6 packs and handed them to her the next morning.

That guy is welcome any time. Just having a second set of eyes is great.

I wonder if the muslims know a common term for a Harley is a “hog”?
