Congress shall make NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF...

Time to set Jay Seculow onto them!

The governor told her to do her job and issue marriage licenses so I don't see him all eager to call a special session.

Kentuckians should be burning up his phone lines convincing him otherwise.

Can a Catholic county clerk refuse to issue a marriage license to someone who is divorced?

Can a pacifist Quaker refuse to issue a CCW license?

No she shouldn't have.

She refuses to do her job, and has chosen NOT too. I would have had much more respect for her position had she resigned.

The court decision, which should have been 9-0 rejecting a right to homosexual marriage, overturned anything in Kentucky law prohibiting two homosexuals from getting married.

Again - can a county clerk who believes remarriage is adultery refuse to issue a marriage license to someone who is divorced and wants to be married?

Did everyone notice how lightning quick this court acted? Usually courts move at the speed of months, if not years, to render ANY decision. But when Christians are involved, it is tomorrow.

Homeland Security, specifically their Federal Protective Service component, is tasked with the protection of Federal Buildings.

A Federal Courthouse is a Federal building. They aren’t oppressing anyone here, they’re doing their legitimate job.

“Meaning still no marriage licenses issued to same sex couples at least until the legislature makes a move?”

No, not necessarily.

From an AP article:

“1:15 p.m. A federal judge is warning deputy clerks in Kentucky that they must issue marriage licenses to gay couples or face fines or jail.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning already jailed Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis for refusing to comply with his order. She was led out of the courtroom by U.S. marshals on Thursday.

The judge gave the deputy clerks time to go meet with public defenders and said the hearing will resume at 1:45 p.m.”

I think I just heard on the radio that there is a growing gathering in protest to support the clerk.

If I lived there instead of Texas I would be there! We have GOT to stand up to this godless government!

The matter was heard in a Federal courthouse, which is a federal domain. If the sheriff tries to get involved in it, he’ll have the US Marshals to deal with.

“Are you a Nazi? If not, why not? You would make a very good Nazi.”

Are you an idiot? You make a very good idiot.

Can a county clerk who has a religious objection to a divorced man remarrying refuse to issue a divorced man a marriage license? If she does issue the license, has she supported adultery?

Kentuckians should be burning up his phone lines convincing him otherwise.

Well he's a Democrat, so if he calls a special session then it looks like he's taking her side. And if he does then the legislature will either remove her, which I don't see them doing, or leave her in office, in which case she's back in the same situation she's in now.

The courts have always had an inherent power to enforce contempt orders, especially when the contempt is alleged to have occurred in the court’s presence. This is not a new development, though it is certainly a power unlike any other in this country.

It is a necessary power, but easily subject to abuse.

You do not understand the nature of civil disobedience. She is refusing to obey the law. She is not avoiding obeying the law by allowing someone else do her job. She knows she is violating the law but does so prepared to accept the consequences. She holds the government responsible for obeying the moral law and natural rights.

I would say that if they voluntarily enter into that arrangement, it’s none of my business - nor yours.
