EXCLUSIVE: Trump will sign GOP loyalty pledge
Politico ^ | 09/03/2015 | Mike Allen

A close associate tells POLITICO that Donald Trump plans to sign a loyalty pledge Thursday that would bind him to endorse the Republican nominee, and would preclude a third-party run. Trump made the stunning decision, which he has long resisted, to avoid complications in getting listed on primary ballots, and to take away an attack line in the next debate, the associate said.

Trump, who has led the GOP field in poll after poll, has long viewed the threat of a third-party candidacy as priceless leverage – and even used that word when he refused to take such a pledge in the first debate, on Aug. 6.

I’ve been reading some Trump interviews and noticing something interesting. Trump adjusts on the fly to new situations and information. As a result people call him a flip-flopper. What he avoids is what R.W. Emerson called a needless consistency borne of stubbornness.

This also explains his business acumen and occasional losses in business as well. He takes chances, and changes his course when he sees opportunity. His instincts are very good, but no one is perfect in these matters.

He has been underestimated by all the experts. They think because he isn’t polished and doesn’t speak like a Harvard man that he’s stupid. He’s making fools of them all as he has native intelligence rather than egg-head intelligence.

An anti-assassination clause is something I am sure DT has thought of as he negotiates with these nitwits. Enforcing it after they kill you would be problematic. He could get Melania to sue for damages if they breached.

GOP loyalty pledge gimmick

****************
That’s exactly what it is. A rather clumbsy attempt to try to get control over the Trump threat to the GOP status quo. They desperately want to control him and this is the first step toward doing that, but it won’t work.

The text of the pledge: “I [name] affirm that if I do not win the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is. I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party.”

What did he get for this, I wonder? What if the GOPe pull dirty tricks to deny him the nomination? Will he stand for that?

CNN was running this as breaking news this moring. I noted that they had no banner about other candidates signing the pledge.

This pledge smacks of a hit, like the FoxNews moderators tried — and failed at.

Will GoPe sign loyal pledge to support Trump if he’s the nominee?

Before answering his 1st CNN debate question, he should look left, look right and ask, "By show of hands, will each of you pledge to support the Republican Presidential Nominee."

...as the camera zooms in on Yeb.

Under a fair and open party system one would think he’s out. But party leadership and Congressional leadership and PAC money hasn’t deserted him yet.

For that to happen, they’d have to get somebody on scene who is a known quantity - a Mitt-like statesman with a proven losing track record.

The bottom line is the GOPe doesn’t mind losing to a rabid Democrat, they all say “my good friend(insert, Barack, Hillary, Sanders, Beelzebub here - whatever works.) The IMPERATIVE is that they cannot allow a conservative to get the nomination that would upset the DC country club.

Perish the thought. You joke, surely, but I do remember Alaska Senator Stevens. It’s not as though they’ve not done it before...possibly.

Is this a legally binding pledge? No. Do we live in an age when legally binding language holds sway? No. Does this loyalty pledge mean diddly squat? Perhaps for people of honor, but those are hard to find.

So Trump signs the pledge. Ok so if the GOPreeks later does him dirty all bets are off and he takes a huge swath of voters with him to the 3rd party.

“What if the GOPe pull dirty tricks to deny him the nomination? Will he stand for that?”

He has such a wide and attentive audience, if they play tricks he will take the stage and outline what they are
doing in no uncertain terms. That would be the death of the Republican Party. They may be stupid enough to try it, since we have seen them do some mighty stupid things.

Good for Trump....he’ll take this issue away from the RINO’s/debates.

Is this *pledge* something that ALL candidates must sign, every election?

If not, I hope Trump comes out swinging, at his press conference, today...against Rinse Prius and the RNC rat-like ways.

Of course he will, was there ever any doubt he would?

There is no down side. He doesn’t have to abide by it, so why not sign it.
