Taylor Swift's new Wildest Dreams video is criticized for being 'racist'
The Daily Mail ^ | Sept. 2 2015 | Wills Robinson

Taylor Swift's latest music video is being battered by critics who claim it is racist and pandering to 'rich white fantasies' from a colonial era. The video for Wildest Dreams, which was revealed during the MTV VMA Awards coverage on Sunday, has a mainly white cast and revolves around two 1950s-era movie stars - played by Swift and Gran Torino actor Scott Eastwood - filming in Africa. There are only two black actors, who play soldiers, and they appear in the background. The mock film crew are white. Director Joseph Khan insists the video is a 'love story' and has no political agenda. But music fans have rushed to Twitter to describe it as 'colonial garbage'.

The reason I like Bad Blood is how bold she is about the antics of Miss Phony Smile Katy Perry. It is honest and actually polite but it’s a bitchslap.

And I will always be super fond of Shake It Off because my little girl was 3 when it came out and loved it dance to it, such cute memories. Such a catchy little song.

And Blank Space is hilarious, a send up of her media persona. Love that.

There are other songs on the album I also like. But the one that really gets me is this one. Wildest Dreams. And the vid did it justice.

BRAVO! I’m going to use that argument A LOT! Have never seen it so magnificently articulated. Thank you!

I do like Katy Perry ALOT too, I know the REASON of their feud, I just can't but help roll my eyes at it though, ugh.

But the Non"Remixed" version of Bad Blood is really good, insanely catchy.

Shake it off is an ear worm and Blank Space's Video looks just like how I pictured it in my head. It is also probably my most listened song by her.

But Honestly, IMO, Taylor's Best song is All Too Well it reminds me of too many lost loves of mine....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4r06C2zLSM

Could not recommend a listen more.

Yes, just moved to Orange County from the beachside of LA - I have a Republican rep for the first time in my life! Lol.

I just dissed Katy Perry to you in my previous post, SO SORRY. But in the spat between them I am on team Taylor. I know she puts on a great show. I love how she treats her fans. She is a good role model for girls too.

I’m not even a millennial, I’m gen X but I still love her. I just saw the talent and admire her. I saw a bit of the VMAs and came away with Miley Cyrus being plain STUPID. She really thinks that bragging about her sex and drugs is cool. It takes an idiot to think that is a good thing. And she has a great voice (singing and speaking) - what a waste.

I hear Orange Country is Republican, I must admit I am slightly taken aback by that, seeing that it is California and all.

That is okay, Some crap about dancers, I honestly don't let it bother me, But I was a Katy fan before I was Taylor fan, but now my IPod Listening queue might suggest different....

Miley Cyrus is best ignored.

My Favorite Katy Song is Hummingbird Heartbeat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL53gkCZUyk

But Please give All Too Well By Taylor a listen, Amazing.

Yes, that’s a great song! Thanks! I haven’t listened to a lot of Taylor’s work.
Think I will need to take some time to listen to her songs.

Led Zepplin (great) to Guns and Roses (fair) to Taylor Swift (vapid) actually makes sense in a sick sort of way.

TS’s Wildest Dreams is similar in sound to Lana Del Rey’s “Missing You”

https://youtu.be/HhuckvSkNgU

Not that that’s a bad thing. I see LDR as as TS for adults. OK maybe, depressed, heavy-drinking adults.

We have talked about this quite a bit and you know my position pretty well about it.

That said, eventually this, assuming we have that long before Iran/China nukes us and the Fallout scenario fires up (Todd Howard was a prophet), These pop types/are gonna have to make a call. Just as the comedians have.

They can eitherkeep up the alligence to the liberal power structure and be whipping posts or take the financial hit and have artistic freedom.

Of course there will always be those on the right that object to their content whereas the left glories in the sex/drugs/rock and roll imagery. Art is and always have that. Some love/some don’t/life goes on. But now that the supposed ‘freedom’ of the left is increasingly fascist, it’s decision time.

THEY are more oppressive than the furthest right wing puritan.

so what’s their message? that whites don’t belong in Africa? During the Barbary Slave Trade years, over 1.25million Europeans were pirated and sold as slaves in Africa, slaves that were worked to death at a rate of an estimated 20% a year. Italy practically abandoned it’s coastal towns, and England was a favorite target along with Spain. Instead of complaining about ‘white fantasies’ we should be acknowledging a history of perseverance that europeans could return to the land that enslaved them, spend millions on nature preserves and create farms from swamps as they tried to bring Africa into the 19th and 20th centuries.
