FR Op Ed: Has Fox News flushed their credibility?
Free Republic Editorial ^ | September 2, 2015 | Me

Et Tu Bret Bair? Most of us had been under the impression that he had journalistic ethics. Baier was considered one of the few at Fox who could actually pull off straight news. However we now discover that he had a pre-planned strategy, with an actual script, aimed at physically ejecting Trump from the debate. This proves that the Fox back room had it in for Trump before the debate dust-up where Megyn Kelly tried – and painfully failed - to make a name for herself by using her role as moderator to portray Trump as a misogynist.

The Baier story comes on the heels of the Breitbart report that Ailes wants to "save the country" from Trump. Yes, the chief of the “fair and balanced” news organization declares he wants to pick off the most popular grass roots GOP candidate to emerge in years.

Frank Luntz, who pretends to be an agnostic pollster, goes on a "f--- you" tirade against Trump. Incidentally, Trump had turned down a business solicitation from Luntz.

Then there was the day last week when nearly every single Fox host in lockstep admonished Trump using airtime to engage in various “leave poor Kelly alone” rants. The list of those who were inspired ad/or encouraged to make their opinions known includes but is not limited to Sean Hannity, Bill Hemmer, Jedediah Bila, Brian Kilmeade, Bill O'Reilly, Shep Smith and Bret Baier. Nearly every known personality on Fox participated in the obvious choreography. It seems that Roger Ailes "rising star" (his words) isn't really a big girl (her words) after all.

Other blatant Trump assassins include George Will, Charles Krauthammer and Bush imp Dana Perino. Fox CEO announced that would like to see Michael Bloomberg as president.

Obviously, the question in the title is rhetorical, but I’m not pretending to be “fair and balanced.” Fox news is.

I was wondering if the appearance of Sarah Palin on OANN would entice somebody to get these people on the airwaves.

And .. just to comment .. Ted Cruz has also disappeared from mention on FOX. I’ve called them on it several times. They will talk about 2016, and never mention Cruz by name .. as if he doesn’t count. But, with bigger gatherings, and more funds (except for Trump and Bush), he should be getting more coverage. I know Kelly had him on frequently in the beginning, but I have a hunch that once Ted joined up with Trump .. Ted was going to get pushed aside. And, her last interview with Ted was very, very combative.

And .. today .. just now, Neal Cavuto was hammering Cruz for joining up with Trump for their big event against the Iran deal; and Cavuto was snarky about the fact nobody else was invited to join them with this event.

However, it was reported here on FR that several of the other candidates had called some person totally unrelated to the Cruz campaign and asked to speak at the event. NONE OF THE CANDIDATES CALLED CRUZ AND ASK IF THEY COULD JOIN HIM .. NO, IT WAS SO THEY COULD SPEAK.

"I am not among those who fear the people. They...are our dependence for continued freedom. And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds...our people...must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they (the British) now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers....This example reads to us the salutary lesson that private fortunes are destroyed by public, as well as by private extravagance. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from the principle in one instance, becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering. Then begins, indeed, the 'bellum omnium in omnia,' which some philosophers...have mistaken for the natural, instead of the abusive, state of man. And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." - Thomas Jefferson

Is there any doubt that the reason her show got those ratings were because of the dustup with Trump? TRUMP brought those ratings, anyone who thinks otherwise is simply kidding themselves or trying to kid others.

Mrs. C-word wasn't even on the air for nearly half the month.

I only tune in to see and hear Greta. Will never watch any of the other, and especially Megan Kelly, again.

I watch OAN now too. The news is straight and Graham Ledger is far better than any of the Fox opinion meisters.

There is not a soul on Fox who will defend Trump. Maybe Steve Doocy did.. once. But even the “contributors” have not one good thing to say about Trump. I’m sure glad I’m on Trump’s side... that way I can enjoy them having a fit over someone who does not walk their walk.

Today was a good Rush program. He was on this like a dog on a bone. Using the word “conservative” is not relevant in this race. It isn’t the conservative I’m after... we have plenty of so called ‘conservatives’ in the GOP and on the air. What I want is someone to hear my voice and stop the washington cartel who is running everything and think Trump backers are dumb, poor and can’t think for ourselves.

They threw us under the bus for years... and they still are doing it. We have proved our numbers can do them harm.. look at the polls!

he had a pre-planned strategy, with an actual script, aimed at physically ejecting Trump from the debate.
They’re just lucky that Trump didn’t have a preplanned strategy for exiting the stage on his own. He might have said,
“You have a huge audience tonight, but it’s disgraceful that you don’t know your audience. Here we are in Ohio, and the governor of the state is here. And, frankly, any one of us on this stage is accustomed to having to turn down invitations to headline events. An impressive, substantive group of people. And then there is the audience in the room, thousands strong, representing the TV audience which is millions strong. All united in serious concern about what is happening to our beloved country. And not one of us, not one of them, has the slightest interest in a discussion of my opinion of Rosie O’Donnell.

What the audience does want to know is who is going to turn this ship around, and how he will do it. The Republican Party could have had any network do this debate, but it selected Fox expecting that Fox was the only network that could be trusted not to play “gotcha” with this distinguished panel. Fox News Channel is trusted by conservatives not to do that, and that is why you have high ratings. But that can change on a dime if you betray that trust. You really should count the cost, you really should make sure you have the backing of your management, before you do that.”

If they persisted, as indeed they would have, Trump could have just said,
”You’re not fired yet, but if I were you I wouldn’t count too heavily on keeping your ratings. I’m outta here.”
Exit stage right to thunderous applause, go to the spin room, and hold court while the rest of the debate tries to go on.

Absolutely, OANN is a much better choice: http://www.oann.com/wheretowatch/

Local news for weather, etc., and OANN the rest of the time.

In addition to Breitbart TV, which is not available as part of the basic cable package on DirecTV, I have been recommending Newsmax TV, especially their consistently conservative commentators such as Steve Malzberg and JD Hayworth. FNC does appear to be moving toward the Center, presumably because of management directives, although Sean Hannity on FNC and Lou Dobbs on FBN still manage to maintain a conservative orientation most of the time; one wonders how long they will remain with Fox. Unfortunately, much of the Fox lineup seems to be going from bad to worse. Some of their most frequently appearing commentators appear not to have been selected on the basis of merit but instead based on who happened to be hanging around the building and was available at the time a particular program aired. These commentators are featured ad nauseam to recycle the same comments on the same subjects, whereas some of the best commentators appear infrequently and then are often not given sufficient opportunity to state their opinions fully. Those commentators who are the best informed and most articulate, logical and rational receive relatively little air time on too many FNC programs.
