Texas Student Under Fire For Remarks About Slain Deputy Arrested

HUNTSVILLE (September 2, 2015) A Sam Houston State University student under fire for her remarks on social media about a slain Texas deputy has been arrested on an unrelated warrant.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirms Monica Foy was arrested Tuesday night at her home for an assault warrant in Harris County.

"Around 7:30 p.m. our agency received a call from someone making us aware of the warrant. We confirmed it was active. We went to her home and she was taken into custody without any problems," said Lt. Brady Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald couldn't confirm who made the call about the warrant, but says Foy was booked into the Montgomery County jail and was later released on bond.

Foy received national attention after posting a controversial tweet Tuesday morning on her personal account @MonicaFoycan.

The tweet said "I can't believe so many people care about a dead cop and NO ONE has thought to ask what he did to deserve it. He had creepy perv eyes..."

The tweet was published on the website Breitbart.com and Foy was identified as a student at Sam Houston State University.

According to Breitbart.com, the tweet appears to be directed at the recent shooting death of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth.

Sam Houston State University has received a significant amount of feedback from people upset about Foy's comments on social media.

On Tuesday night the school posted the following statement on its Facebook page:

"SHSU appreciates the enormous public response in support of law enforcement. The university is a leader in educating many people who work in criminal justice and those who protect the civil liberties this country was founded upon, including free speech, whether we agree with that speech or not.

SHSU has a strong Student Code of Conduct. The student’s remarks will be evaluated to determine if the code was violated following standardized due process. The university has an ongoing commitment to taking actions that strengthen dialog and understanding between our students and the law enforcement community." Several Facebook users claiming to be Sam Houston State alumni have threatened to stop supporting the school if Foy isn't disciplined or removed from campus.

In a separate Facebook post, Sam Houston State University added several photos of police officers hugging students on campus along with this message:

"The individual opinion of a student does not reflect the beliefs of Sam Houston State University or its 20,000 other students. Sam Houston State is renowned internationally for its criminal justice programs and many in Texas law enforcement are proud SHSU alumni. We fully support and are thankful for the men and women who risk their lives every day to protect and serve communities across the nation. We mourn the loss of any officer and in no way condone the recent and senseless violence that has occurred in Texas and across the United States against those who have sworn to protect us."

Since the posting, Foy's Facebook and Twitter count have been shut down.

A prayer service to honor fallen law enforcement officers is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Conroe.

The first improvement in toiletpaper as we know it since the 1880s

Being a big guy certainly has its advantages; and its disadvantages. THIS is a great product!

Oh. My. Goodness.

This video is a scream!

That’s being a GRAND ass, but surely there is more? More asinine things have been said about George W. Bush and apparently just ignored.

Well fine, but surely there had to be more than this grandly asinine comment of hers. If that’s all, it sounds like a civil rights lawsuit coming and the lefties are very active today.

They didn’t arrest her for that comment. There was a warrant out for her arrest from Houston so the Montgomery County Sheriff arrested her. I read the warrant was for an assault and battery charge.

Which (the warrant) was not based upon the comment, I assume?

Correct, warrant not based on her comment, the outstanding warrant was about assault. My guess is, her comment brought her name to the forefront and police in counties around Huntsville, ran her name in their data base and found that warrant.

There’s something to that idea; so far schools, even in such bastions of conservatism, are still not offering their rosters up to police. But it was her choice whether or not to be in the news.
