Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that a web video from 2016 GOP rival Donald Trump hitting Mr. Bush on immigration was a complete mischaracterization of his thinking something Mr. Bush said was reminiscent of a Washington politician.
Asked whether he stands by his statement made last year that some illegal immigrants come into the country out of an act of love, Mr. Bush said on Fox News Americas Newsroom: What I stand by is the fact that we need to secure our border, and I have a comprehensive plan to do just that.
Ive talked to the governors on the border I was a border governor because we have lots of immigration coming from the south, he said. Ive talked to local law enforcement officers and people, and I have a plan to be able to secure the border thats what we ought to be focusing on, not grandiose language. Not mischaracterizing peoples views.
The video from Mr. Trump includes audio of Mr. Bushs act of love comments, with images overlaid of people such as Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez (identified as Francisco Sanchez), who has been charged in the July 1 murder of Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco after having been deported five times.
Mr. Bush called the video a complete mischaracterization of my thinking.
Its almost as though Donald Trump is acting like a Washington politician thats what they do, he said.

Says Jebito, born to it (when he isn’t being a Mexican)
Projection 101
LOL
Eric Cantor come up with that jewel? What an idiot?!
there's that phrase again. Translation: "I got nuthin"
Could Yeb be more pathetic?
Heb Boosh “I’ve been coached to say this crap despite my irrelevance!”
What a loser.
and with that statement Jeb bush is acting like a Washington politician.
Jeb is an expert on how a Washington politician should act.
And what are you acting like, Jeb?
Florida borders Texas, who knew?
If I believed Jeb, I could consider voting for him. However:
"But the way I look at this -- and I'm going to say this, and it'll be on tape and so be it. The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldnt come legally, they come to our country because their families -- the dad who loved their children -- was worried that their children didnt have food on the table. And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but its not a felony. Its an act of love. Its an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime that there should be a price paid, but it shouldnt rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."
As Jeb says, it's on tape. So be it. I believe he was sincere then and still believes what he said then. Committing a crime to enter our country without permission is an act of love in the same way as committing a crime to enter my home without permission is an act of love. Even if the crime was committed for "positive" reasons, I don't care about the motive; I don't want criminals to profit from their crimes. Deport them all, and if they leave voluntarily before being deported, I don't mind them returning as legal immigrants once they have permission, and within the limits set by Congress. If we have to pay to send them home, they should be fingerprinted, DNA-swabbed, and permanently barred from all paths to legal entry or to citizenship.
I'm not sorry, but Jeb isn't even on the list of candidates I might consider. Cruz is my first choice, with Walker in second place. I'd consider Trump although I don't trust him. The problem with Jeb is that I trust him completely in his 2014 statement on "an act of love". That's like supporting Obamacare or registering/banning/confiscating firearms - a deal breaker.
What a clumsy effort. Jebito is not very good at this spin stuff, is he?
Delusional. Trump is the ONLY one talking about immigration in the way he does. He is the ONLY one talking about “protectionism” (and I do not agree with his policies re: tariffs) and I am not a Trump groupie.
But the one thing he is doing is absolutely NOT talking like a Washington pol and you’d have to be an idiot to think so.
Trump could take and run with this comment and seriously hurt Jeb. And he should. And he should take the opportunity to credit Jeb with not a single new idea and his incredible regard for immigrants over citizens. Jeb hasn’t said ONE THING about native citizens.
¡Jeb! acting like a Florida politician with fake Hispanic roots.
Is that you Peewee Herman?
iYeb, you are a sniveling little blue blood.
Jeb still hasn’t gotten the point that untrue statements don’t work on Trump supporters.
