New 'supergiant' natural gas discovery may be the largest ever.

Remember “peak oil”? We were solemnly lectured that the world was running out of hydrocarbon energy sources, so we must immediately lower our standard of living and reduce energy consumption. But as with all Malthusian predictions of shortage, that forecast failed to reckon with human ingenuity and the wonder of the price system stimulating new supply. The sky-is-falling faction turned to equally fallacious predictions of global warming as a means to bludgeon others into reducing their standard of living (while the warriors like Robert Kennedy and President Obama keep their private jets).

Meanwhile, in the real world, energy supplies, in particular clean natural gas, continue to grow. The latest good news comes for a country that could really use some good news. CNN Money (hat tip: Clarice Feldman) reports:

I had that same thought (for real)

Imagine an earthquake that would suddenly release such a giant pocket of gas

Would that significantly affect the atmosphere?

I know the article isn’t by you RKTMAN, but why in the hell does it take three paragraphs of needless opinion and crap to tell us a big find was discovered in the Med?

I can tell you. It’s because there was really only two or three sentences worth of real news and we had to be treated to some dipshit’s opinion on the meaning before we could hear it. I’m so sick of this crap....(no offense, rktman)

Natural Gas (NG) is natural and burns clean. It can be created even from rotting waste or cow farts. It’s everywhere and easily created.

The USA has 10 X more NG than its population could ever use in the next hundreds of years.

Yet Asia and Europe are on their knees for a reliable NG supply.

NG can be converted to liquid NG or LNG and exported by ship.

The USA can become the Saudi Arabia of LNG for the world. And it would employ millions of Americans (no exaggeration) into secure high paying jobs for decades.

Gee CNN, I thought Obama was all the good news we would ever need.

Don’t worry. The “greens” (i.e., watermelons) will have it shut down ASAP.

yet the CNN article it spawned from, it's in the first sentence...
http://money.cnn.com/2015/08/30/news/companies/eni-gas-field/

In what could be the largest natural gas discovery in history, Italian energy company Eni says it has unearthed a "supergiant" gas field in the Mediterranean Sea covering about 40 square miles.

Typical from AT I guess. Maybe Thomas had a word-count deadline. Waste of time article IMO.

Yet Asia and Europe are on their knees for a reliable NG supply.

This is why China signed that US$400 billion with Russia to import natural gas from eventually eastern Siberia, where there are estimates of gigantic natural gas deposits yet to be found. There may be enough natural gas in eastern Siberia to fuel Chinese demand for hundreds of years. And Russia could put a big "carrot" in front of the Japanese to buy natural gas from the large natural gas fields on Sakhalin Island in exchange for the four westernmost of the Kuril Islands.

Here’s the good news that a Donald Trump-like administration could finesse.

We can have NG/LNG infrastructure for massive exports up and running in 3 to 5 years and we can dominate the market because of the low cost of our NG. We can also have foreign buyers make the investment in liquefaction plants in Long Beach and Houston (I know for a fact that S. Korea will put up all the investment in port infrastructure).

Competitors like the Italians and other Euro interests in the NG find in the Med will have huge environmental restrictions and huge time development to get at their find and make it competitive.

As for Russia signing agreements, Russia is not a reliable business partner. Their contracts don’t mean sh*t because there is no Rule of Law to enforce a Russian contract. The Euros know this first-hand. Basically Russia is comprised of 3 mafia-like families that control all O&G in Russia of which Putin heads one of the families. The families have a truce-like standing agreement with each other but that ‘truce’ can flip on a dime. Nobody likes doing business with Russia.

Wasn’t “peak oil’ the lie BEFORE the global warming lie?

Or was it after the population bomb and before global winter?

Oh wait - it was around the time all commodities would run out and we’d be paying thousands of dollars for a pound of copper... or was it after Club of Rome?

Liberals have so many lies to scare their voters... hard to keep up with ‘em.
