Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich: Donald Trump Could be GOP Nominee
washingtonpost.com ^ | August 30 | Janell Ross

In a roundtable discussion with political reporters and analysts on ABC's "This Week," former House speaker Newt Gingrich said what others may be thinking.

Gingrich told guest host Martha Raddatz that Donald Trump, a billionaire businessman, real estate mogul and novice politician, could, in fact, become the Republican presidential nominee.

RADDATZ: Could he be the nominee?

GINGRICH: Yes.

RADDATZ: You think — you have to know he could be the nominee?

GINGRICH: Absolutely. I don't think he — I think he also could be the president.

RADDATZ: How does he do it?

GINGRICH: Well, first of all, if you're ahead everywhere and you — and your lead is increasing, as it is in Iowa...

The GOPe will not support Trump if he wrests the nomination from them. They’ll try and oust him or run a GOPe candidate on an independent ticket to split the vote, essentially they’ll combine forces with the Democrats to try and stop him from becoming President.

How Trump gets past that, besides pointing out the obvious fact that they’ve unmasked themselves, I have no idea.

However, Trump hasn’t been running a conventional campaign so far, so maybe he has an unconventional answer to this also.

Trump has been on the other side, has played the game, and knows how greased wheels spin easier. He also knows that if the country goes down the tubes, then everything he has worked so hard for will be worth squat. Has he seen the light or is he just another in the long-line of talk/promise, get elected, and then do the opposite?

I trust it's the former. If not, we're screwed, anyway.

“Newt could end up in a Trump administration. UN Ambassador? Popcorn time!”

That would be too cool. It is fun to think of Trump being a great manager, finding and hiring the best guys for a given job

Trump is making the biggest deal with the citizenry of the U.S. He will keep his part of the deal.

What's more conservative than sending millions of leftist illegal immigrants back to the countries they came from? All the conservative causes will win if you have less leftist immigrants in the USA.

After the 1986 amnesty California went from a conservative state to a liberal state . So immigration is far more important that the other issues.

Only Trump is even saying the words deport illegals. Only Trump is talking against China and Mexico etc.

Wonder why rump is the only one saying these America first things? Because all the rest of the politicians are owned by foreign interests and rich internationalist donors. Trump is not owned by anyone .

Politicians are corrupt and have destroyed this country. Enough. And many are shilling against Trump even here . We have an opportunity here of a lifetime to finally get someone that is on our side the American people's side and they are saying " they want the politicians what hasn't worked for the last 100 years".

We’ll see in the next few weeks if Trump can handle the big weapon in the GOPe arsenal...the negative TV blitz.

I predict it will resonate with all the effectiveness of the "islam is a religion of peace" blitz.

Let's revisit that thought after a couple of hundred millions of dollars are spent on the airwaves attacking Trump from every angle.

They would do that at their own PERIL! That could blow back on them big time , and it probably will.

Average Americans have HAD IT with political parties doing that kind of crap being thrown at their candidates and are going to cheer when Trumps throws it back at them!

You know, I never thought he was all that much of a lib in NYC. He was always carrying on about crime. Whenever a major crime - especially one against a woman - he was always shouting from the rooftops. I realize that some of his positions are, indeed, liberal, but most people in NYC thought he was a neanderthal on issues.

Gradually some of the 17 will be voted off the island. Suppose that in January Trump, Carson, Cruz, Rubio, Jeb are the only ones left, which is likely. Where will the former supporters of the eliminated go?

Most Cristie/Kasich supporters will go to Jeb.
Most Huckabee/Fiorina/Walker/Santorum/Paul supporters will never go to Jeb. It is hard to see Jeb ever again going above 12% nationally. So which survivor can capture voters who lost their first choice?

Carson and Rubio seem to be the 2nd and 3rd choices of almost everyone. Carson is clearly benefitting from the slide of others. Will that continue?

Cruz needs to find a way to broaden his appeal. So far he has narrow casted himself. Will he and his campaign see a need to do that? Will he continue to let his enemies define him? Or will his campaign realize that they need to define their candidate before the enemy does?

Cruz has the most potential to be the break out candidate. He also has the most potential to be the opportunity lost.

It doesn’t matter how loud you yell. Balancing the budget has nothing to do with sucking up to the global warming crowd and whining about the racist laws that put too many blacks in prison.
